The Opportunity
Arup's West + LATAM Building Envelopes and Facade team is seeking a talented and driven senior engineer to contribute to the delivery of diverse building projects throughout the US West and globally.
Arup is seeking a Senior Facades Engineer to join our based in Building Envelopes and Facades team in Los Angeles. Senior Engineers provide financial and commercial project management, lead technical engineering services in projects across markets, and mentor junior staff. Arup is looking for self-initiating problem-solvers who can work as part of a team to apply a wide range of building enclosure technical skills. The role includes working closely with world renowned architects and building owners to develop facade designs and deliver performance-based solutions. The role will involve interactive and collaborative work with our engineers and multi-disciplinary colleagues.
The Opportunity:
- Participate and actively contribute to design workshops, where cladding solutions are explored and determined. Workshops will be with architects and fellow professionals and with the cladding industry and relevant disciplines.
- Develop façade and building envelope designs in support of architectural intent and in collaboration with other disciplines including structural, mechanical, acoustics, lighting, fire / life safety, sustainability, etc. as required.
- Perform or coordinate the production of preliminary engineering calculations to support development of the façade design.
- Develop and refine sketches to convey ideas and explain building envelope concepts. Such sketches are often included in our tender information packages.
- Produce specifications, drawing and/or sketch packages, and reports forming the basis of tender documentation.
- Review building enclosure submittals for compliance with contract documents, industry standards, and best practice.
- Witness performance testing and prepare associated technical reports.
- Carry out factory visits and site observations and prepare associated technical reports.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of other team members.
- Communicate with clients and stakeholders to establish their needs and maintain a collaborative dialogue throughout the project.
- Manage project teams to ensure production of deliverables to agreed timelines and within established budget.
- Schedule and coordinate intermediate quality assurance design and documentation reviews.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team.
- Assist with the development of proposed scopes of work and budgets.

Is this role right for you?
- Knowledge of architectural design, building science fundamentals, building materials, relevant codes and standards, and construction methods.
- Technical knowledge of exterior wall, roofing, waterproofing, and other building envelope systems.
- Ability to perform structural and/or building envelope physics analyses to support the development of façade designs.
- Experience with 3-D computer modeling packages and 2-D CAD.
- Excellent analytical, research, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering, Masters strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 6 - 7 years of relevant experience.
- US Cladding industry experience is desirable, but not essential.
- Able to understand and achieve a balance of priorities on multiple projects.
- Maintains a collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset throughout the delivery of projects.
- Able to quickly develop successful client relationships.
- Able to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Commercial awareness.

Los Angeles Hiring Range –The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Los Angeles is $112,250 to $130,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Los Angeles will differ.
