Arup’s Climate and Sustainability Services team comprises a broad range of specialisms. Within this, the Environment team coordinate and manage design input and Impact Assessments, working with a variety of technical disciplines on a wide range of different types of development.
The team have expertise in environmental impact assessment (EIA), strategic environmental assessment (SEA), health impact assessment (HIA), and integrated impact assessment (IIA) We have a track record of delivering assessments for a range of development types, including high profile, major infrastructure and development projects

The Opportunity
The position is for a Senior Environmental Consultant to be based in an office in our North-West & Yorkshire geography. The role will be focused on the coordination of environmental input to design activities, embedding sustainable project outcomes and the delivery of impact assessments for projects across the UK, in particular for major national infrastructure in transport, water and the energy sectors. Clients will include private developers, public sector authorities and other organisations. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary team alongside other environmental, planning, engineering and urban design specialists (both internal and external to Arup) to deliver high quality environment and sustainability consultancy services.
Your remit will be to undertake technical work as well as assist with proposal preparation and marketing activities. You will be accountable for:
Driving a holistic approach to design to realise positive environmental outcomes and delivering environmental impact assessment for projects. This will involve promoting the management of the assessment process and technical teams, reviewing technical inputs, writing environmental reports (including EIA screening letters, EIA scoping reports, Environmental Statements) and assisting with the review of topic reports/inputs for compliance with EIA Regulations and project details.

Is this role right for you?
We are interested in the following skills:
- Education to degree level in a relevant subject
- A Chartered member (or working towards Chartership) of an appropriate institute (e.g. Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) or equivalent)
- Project appreciation in Energy and/or Water sectors desirable
- Exposure of undertaking EIA in the UK of other UK regimes (i.e. DCO, hybrid Bill)
- Knowledge of carbon and sustainability assessment tools (e.g. BREEAM) desirable.
