The Opportunity

 

Based in Belfast, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior engineer to be a key part of the Roads and Streets team; the senior engineer will undertake design, project management and consulting services to enhance the team’s portfolio of skills and expertise.

Responsibilities will include participating in roads, streets, active travel and sustainable transport design for both minor and major projects, working closely with other team members, providing technical support, and mentoring to engineers and technicians, and taking an active role in pushing forward the skills and abilities of the team members, including supervising and training early careers staff. Join a growing and dynamic team working on a variety of projects across multiple sectors.

 

Is the role for you?

  • Working within a multi-discipline team of engineers, technicians, and other professionals to develop designs from concept to detailed design and construction, complying with standards.

  • Integrating with associated designs from drainage, structures, geotechnical, environmental and other disciplines.

  • Responsible for completion of specifically assigned tasks in accordance with programme and budget.

  • Assigning and checking the project work of graduate engineers and technicians.

  • Ensuring compliance with Arup standards as set out in the company’s quality procedures.

  • Preparation of specifications, providing input to contract documents and supporting the delivery of designs through the construction process.

  • Assist with management and procurement of surveys and other site activities including liaison with stakeholders and supervision of contractors.

     

     

    Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or similar. Chartered professional status.

  • Strong technical skills in the design of roads, streets, active travel and general civil engineering projects including experience in the documentation and delivery of projects at various stages.

  • Experience of the current UK design standards and experience of design interfaces, e.g. geotechnical, environmental, drainage, structures etc.

  • Highly competent in using 3D highways modelling and design software such as Civil 3D and Bentley OpenRoads Designer.

  • Competent in using 2D drafting software such as AutoCAD and Microstation.

  • Ability to prepare Departures and Relaxations from Standard. Ability to prepare and check reports and collate specifications from all parties to the project and to collect other data and statistics necessary for the preparation of progress and technical reports.

 

Experience in the following areas is also desirable:

  • Design of private developer led highway schemes

  • Traffic signs and road markings design

  • Vehicle restraint system design and assessment

  • Highways drainage design

  • Road safety audits

  • Contract document preparation

  • Knowledge of common data environments such as ProjectWise
