Senior Engineer
Senior Engineer (New York, NY)
- Perform sizing, design, design optimization, commissioning, construction administration, and airflow performance testing of ventilation systems for rail tunnels, road tunnels, railyard overbuilds, utility tunnels, and industrial applications;
- Use one-dimensional (1-D) aerothermodynamic numerical tools, including Subway Environment Simulation (SES), IDA Tunnel, or equivalent, to extract thermal and fluid field data for boundary conditions to three-dimensional (3-D) general purpose commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) codes;
- Develop CFD modeling techniques to size, evaluate, and improve tunnel ventilation strategies for enclosed surface and subsurface transit systems;
- Collaborate with CFD modelers and mechanical, electrical, architectural and structural teams on simulations;
- Analyze and assess physical meaning, consistency, and accuracy of CFD results;
- Create detailed reports of findings and present technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences;
- Coordinate with multiple disciplines and project managers and develop client relationships to support business development;
- Support Fire and Life Safety (FLS) system design of integrated fan plants with mode of operations for normal, emergency, congested, pressure relief, and contaminant containment;
- Design tunnel ventilation systems from concept to detailed design using National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standard 130 and 502 compliant fans, sound attenuators, flex connections, ductwork, and dampers;
- Study trends and methodologies in the Mechanical Engineering and Tunneling Industry, participate in conferences, and publish in journals to develop native C, Linux, parallel and grid computing platforms for CFD codes;
- Mentor junior mechanical engineers.
- Requires Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of experience.
- Salary Range: $134,784.00 – $164,400.00/year.
