The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and technically proficient Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (EICA) Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team delivering impactful water and energy projects. The ideal candidate will be chartered or working towards chartership, with demonstrable experience in the design and delivery of EICA systems within the UK water sector and growing exposure to energy infrastructure, including renewables and battery storage.

You will play a key role in delivering technically robust solutions, and gain experience leading others and developing client relationship.

With frameworks and major projects across the UK, in both water and energy, our pipeline of work is strong and there will be flexibility to work with you to develop your technical, management and leadership skills as you desire.  Initially, you will, lead or support the design and integration of EICA systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities, including MCCs, VSDs, instrumentation, and control systems. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic engineering solutions that meet client specifications and regulatory standards.  Provide technical assurance across project stages—from feasibility and optioneering through to commissioning and handover.  Contribute to strategic planning and development of EICA capabilities within our Water and Energy teams.  Engage with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure alignment and satisfaction.  Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal technical development initiatives and assist with project planning.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for the following skills, experience and attributes;

  • Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or demonstrably working towards it.

  • Strong understanding of water treatment processes and associated EICA systems.

  • Experience with energy systems such as renewables, battery storage, or hydrogen is desirable

  • Proficiency in producing cost effective EICA designs and deliverables that meet project specs and are easily constructed and commissioned.  Design deliverables include single-line diagrams, cable block diagrams, MCC layouts, and control specifications
