The Opportunity

This is an exciting time to join Arup as we sit at the heart of the UK's infrastructure sector, leading on a number of nationally significant schemes in energy, water, aviation and more! As a result, we have a growing need for specialist consultants to join our growing stakeholder engagement and consultation centre of excellence in the Midlands.

We are looking for passionate, senior engagement and consultation consultants, looking to take their next career step, supporting some of the UK's largest DCOs, working with our team and partners in the delivery of stakeholder engagement, consultation and reporting.

This is an opportunity to further develop your understanding of the engagement, consultations and communications requirements under a range of statutory instruments and non-strategy guidance while supporting the development of others. You will  develop and promote best practice on consultation within the team and be an advocate for this in the wider company. You will have the opportunity to work on high profile projects of national and regional significance, developing a range of consultation and engagement skills with a range of clients. 

Is this role right for you?

Through your work in this role, you will help strengthen our national consultation and engagement offer through the following types of activities:
•    Acting as a Deputy Stakeholder Engagement lead for projects 
•    Contributing to preparation of stakeholder and consultation plans
•    Creating and publishing printed and digital communications materials and other collateral
•    Assistance with management and delivery of public consultation events
•    Overseeing the analysis and coding of consultation responses and production of coding frameworks
•    Supporting author of consultation reports (statutory and non-statutory) 
•    Support in the management and facilitation of stakeholder workshops
•    Support the development of new technologies and best practice techniques for consultation
•    Identification and mapping of stakeholders and audiences

•    Further develop your understanding of the engagement, consultation and communications requirements under a range of statutory instruments and non-statutory guidance and support the development of others
•    Develop and promote best practice on consultation within the team and be an advocate for this in the wider company
•    Develop a range of consultation and engagement skills with a range of clients
•    Work in a growing and high performing team and build relationships with other Arup disciplines
•    Work on high profile projects of national and regional significance.


Essential Skills and Knowledge:
•    Demonstrable experience in delivering stakeholder engagement and consultation requirements for DCOs and TCPAs  
•    Excellent verbal communication and written skills
•    Experience of supporting consultation events 
•    Strong project management and organisational skills
•    The ability to think creatively and contribute to the development of a range of consultation and communications tools
•    Ability/ experience to work as part of a team and manage people for consultation
•    Emotional intelligence and the ability to negotiate and persuade 


Qualifications:
•    Degree or Masters, or a Diploma qualified in communications, public relations, town planning or relevant discipline.
•    Desire to work towards a chartered membership of a relevant professional institute for example Consultation Institute, Chartered Institute of Public Relations or equivalent. (This will be agreed and supported by the Midlands Planning Leader).
Desirable Skills and Knowledge:
•    Relevant sector experience (energy, transport, water) in communications, consultation and engagement
•    Full driving licence.
