MAN00013Z Requisition #

Joining Arup

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We work across the entire water cycle, with utilities, local and regional governments, commercial and domestic water users and other partners. From designing and maintaining key water infrastructure to advising on natural catchments and flood defenses, we help clients to consider the long-term economic, environmental and social dimensions of their proposals.

The Opportunity

Our water team in Manchester is growing around a core team with expertise in major water utility and water pipeline projects. We are seeking a person with deep curiosity for the impact that water can have on people’s lives; someone who is driven to help us protect others.

A professionally qualified civil engineer, you should be, or aspire to be, a subject matter expert in the design and assessment of complex hydraulic systems. For this role we need someone who has demonstrable experience of the leadership of hydraulic design and assessment; be it design of pipelines, surge/transient analysis, or a closely related area.

You might also be digital-savvy and have an interest in using digital tools to solve complex problems or eliminate repetitive tasks. You will have opportunities to help us with our projects in the UK and around the globe, working alongside specialists from other countries and continents, and to grow and develop our specialist service offering in Manchester. Lack of exciting and challenging projects should be your least concern.

Is this role right for you

Reporting to the Water Team Leader in Manchester, you will contribute to the growth of Arup’s Water business in NW England. For the right candidate this will offer excellent career progression opportunities, including line management duties and the chance to work on nationally and internationally significant projects.

Your typical responsibilities will include:

•    Deliver projects involving complex hydraulic design and assessment, including surge analysis and pipeline design.
•    Provide technical leadership, ensuring high-quality delivery and mentoring junior engineers.
•    Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with colleagues from other areas of the business.
•    Engage directly with clients and other professionals, contributing to internal and external project meetings.
•    Use specialist technical analysis and design software.
•    Prepare and review technical reports, presentations, drawings, calculations and specifications.
•    Support junior colleagues’ career development while continuing to develop your own technical and professional skills.

What we’re looking for:

We are seeking the below skills and knowledge:

•    Relevant degree and experience in designing and delivering water sector projects.
•    Professional qualification or membership with ICE or another recognised industry body.
•    Experience in water and wastewater treatment design and delivery.
•    Strong communication, teamwork and presentation skills, with the ability to work independently.
•    Ability to collaborate effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
•    Motivated to learn, develop and take on new challenges.

Desirable:

•    Experience with Design & Build contracts or frameworks.
•    Interest in digital technologies and innovation to improve design efficiency.

Please note, to ensure we remain GDPR compliant do not send your CV directly to us via this email.
