Senior BIM Designer
Joining Arup
Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
The Opportunity
We have a new opportunity for a Senior Structural BIM Designer who is excited by technically challenging work on cutting-edge projects to join our creative and collaborative Building Engineering Team in the North (based in our Newcastle or Manchester office). You’ll be part of a growing multidisciplinary team of over 400 engineers and BIM designers across the group.
Our projects span the globe, offering the opportunity to thrive in an international, multicultural environment. You'll contribute to some of the most innovative projects worldwide, working alongside leading architects, engineers and specialist consultants. Current and recent projects span major science and industrial developments, railway stations and associated buildings, education and sports facilities, alongside significant civil infrastructure programmes. Building on our strong track record in the built environment, we continue to grow a diverse portfolio of projects that provides opportunities to work across a wide range of asset types, scales and delivery environments.
In this role, as a Senior Structural BIM Designer, you will be responsible for the production of structural BIM models and drawings to communicate our designs. You will be a focal point for collaborative BIM delivery, attending coordination workshops and collaborating with project stakeholders to develop and coordinate designs. Beyond your project responsibilities, you will provide technical support to the wider team, including the development of earlier-career colleagues.
Experience implementing BIM Execution Plans, information requirements and project delivery standards is highly valued. We are particularly interested in individuals who recognise the importance of effective information management and governance in BIM delivery, and who can leverage digital tools, automation and innovation to support high-quality project outcomes. Experience in reinforced concrete detailing would be advantageous.
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.
Is this role right for you?
- We are looking to speak to people who have:
- A strong background in the structural delivery of complex projects across all design stages, ideally including building projects within multidisciplinary design teams.
- In-depth knowledge of Autodesk Revit, including model setup, modelling and drawing production.
- Strong communication skills at all levels, with regular reporting to structural engineering leads and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with clients.
- Have, or are working towards, a relevant professional qualification (for example, IStructE or ICE EngTech), or higher.
- A curiosity to innovate and develop skills with new and emerging technologies to improve our approach to structural engineering design and delivery.
- Experience using Autodesk Forma is an advantage but not essential.
- Experience with fabrication-level reinforced concrete detailing is advantageous, but not essential.
Experience working with Autodesk Civil 3D may also be advantageous, but not essential.
