Senior Advisory Services Consultant- London/ Solihull

We are looking for a Senior Consultant join our Midlands-based team - based at the Midlands Campus in Solihull - to lead advisory projects in highways and rail, and assist in developing services in water and energy. The position will be suited to a person with a consistent record in the delivery of ambitious solutions and a background in infrastructure, civil or similar asset engineering and experience in applying your knowledge in an advisory context.


The Role


This role is predominately a strategic planning consultant role where digital skills would also be vital. Ideally an enthusiastic, dynamic, technically strong individual would be suited. You will coordinate delivery and contribute to developing a pipeline of opportunities in target clients including Highways England with involvement in national and potentially international commissions. The role will also support collaboration with the wider Advisory services across Arup and provide opportunity to become involved in a wide variety of project across infrastructure clients.

This is a key role in the Midlands Infrastructure business supporting the growing Advisory Services stream of our business plan.


Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Service delivery - leading and delivering advisory services (see below)
  • Project Management
  • Professional development – of yourself and others in the team. This will likely include line management
  • Business development – including building internal networks, developing client relationships, and originating and handling preparation of bids.

You will work in multi-disciplinary teams, typically comprising a mix of other competences. Team sizes varies depending on scope and scale of our client’s briefs. It may be a requirement to operate under a client secondment arrangement.


Your service delivery focus will be on a number of aspects associated with, but not limited to; long-term investment planning, decision support, information management, risk and resilience, financial modelling, statistical analysis, regulatory monitoring and reporting, asset management, business case development, feasibility studies and business transformation.


Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Good understanding of the issues infrastructure owners/operators in the UK are facing
  • Capability in developing business proposals to pitch to clients, by drawing together expertise from across the business.
  • Demonstrable track record in delivering accurate, quality technical advice in an engaging and consultative manner, with the ability to influence others.
  • Excellent project management and delivery skills, including financial and risk management
  • Interpret technical information into clear communications for broad partner groups
  • Strong analytical skills, including an ability to analyse and draw insight from business data.
  • Knowledge and validated application in a number of key areas including, but not limited to; long-term investment planning, decision support, information management, risk and resilience, financial modelling, statistical analysis, regulatory monitoring and reporting, asset management, business case development, feasibility studies and business transformation
  • Recent, validated experience in the transportation sector, preferably of both strategy-focused and operational roles
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions and exhibit innovative thinking
  • Ability to write succinct and accurate reports


  • An appropriate university degree or equivalent qualification
  • Have chartered status with a relevant professional institution or similar
