We are seeking a Financial Accounting Manager in our Toronto office who will join the Global Financial Accounting Team managing the region’s statutory reporting process and audits. This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate financial reporting, managing audits, and maintaining strong internal controls. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a continuous improvement mindset to support Arup’s evolving finance function.
The person will work closely with local finance business partners, the Shared Services Centre teams in Newcastle, United Kingdom, and project management teams in Canada and the US to identify and implement process improvements and documentation and assist in complying with the region's statutory regulations. This role will not only provide beneficial support to the financial reporting but will also play a significant role in business operations and internal control improvements.
The opportunity
- Oversee the planning and coordination of preparing financial statements and the audit of US & Canadian entities with Senior Accountants.
- Review statutory working papers, financial statements and note disclosures, memos and process documentation prepared by the team.Manage WIP processes and external audit relationships.
- Lead a small team of accountants, fostering development and performance.
- Ensure effective control frameworks are built into the processes and risks are identified and addressed as advised through the Group Director of Finance Operations, Procurement and Control.
- Drive the documentation of process flows end to end for your areas of responsibility.
- Drive continuous improvement with the Regional Head of Financial Accounting (Americas) to identify opportunities where processes for your area can be enhanced for efficiency, automation and improved control.
- Effective and timely communication across the Finance teams and your region, communicating at all levels of seniority and with external service providers, e.g. external auditors.
- Stakeholder Management and strong customer service principles are important to the role as is the ability to build strong relationships both centrally and across regions.
- Identifying development needs within the team and setting training plans to further develop individuals within the team,

Is this role right for you?
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or economics required.
- Qualified CPA designation is required.
- 7+ years post-qualification experience in end-to-end financial reporting and statutory accounting.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP/Oracle/JDE and/or SAAS applications) preferred.
- Team management experience with strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to listen, demonstrate empathy and remain calm when under pressure.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work in an agile and collaborative manner within a complex and changing business environment.
- Strong computer literacy in MS Office with Excel and Word.
- Familiar with Risk and Issue management processes.

Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job performed in Toronto is $135,000 to $150,000 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary range. Summary of benefits are included in this posting with details provided to applicants at the time of interview. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
