The Opportunity

We are looking for a talented and passionate OLE Design Engineer to join our lively and dynamic Rail team and help us shape a better world.

You will be accountable for establishing the OLE design requirements from our client brief and be able to make sound decisions and propose the right design solution. Thereafter produce the necessary OLE design to multidisciplinary design teams on large or medium-sized projects. In addition, you would be aligning on and checking the OLE designs and calculations within implementation and renewal projects. You will be collaborating and disclosing knowledge, best practices and innovation across our business, providing guidance, training, and feedback with other related disciplines and skills, locally and across the UK.

All the while, you will have the freedom to work freely, managing your own personal development utilising our in-house and external training opportunities.

Our regional offices contain talented, multidisciplinary teams offering a broad range of professional services and expertise including railway design, construction, installation, and commissioning. In this post, you will be part of a team, accountable for the successful delivery of our design commissions for our major clients including Network Rail contractors (in a design and build context) and other agencies such as Train Operators, Councils, Passenger Transport Executives, and academic institutions.

Our current portfolio of multidisciplinary projects across various GRIP Stages includes Trans Pennine Route Upgrade West of Leeds, Midland Main Line Electrification, and Swansea Metro.


Is this role right for you?

  • Knowledge and understanding in OLE design. Approval in principal and detailed OLE Design background within multi-disciplinary rail projects including producing OLE layout plans, cross-sections, sectioning diagrams, bills of quantity, bonding plans, etc.
  • Proficient in the production of drawings using CAD (e.g. Bentley MicroStation) software, design software (e.g.LinearDraft)
  • Working knowledge of construction methods and installation, Knowledge and exposure within Traction Supply and Distribution and background in undertaking site surveys/site visits and reporting on asset conditions.
  • An appropriate HND, university, or equivalent qualification
  • Chartered or Incorporated Member of the IMEchE, IET or similar
