We are seeking a Rail Engineering Manager to join our Infrastructure Midlands Rail Engineering and Systems team. The successful candidate will provide technical design management for a range of exciting and complex multi-disicplinary rail projects, both in the UK and globally.

  • Project responsibilities will include:
  • Management and coordination of engineering / design activities associated with the project
  • Management of technical interfaces with third party designers
  • Application of appropriate design assurances
  • Application of appropriate CDM/CSM processes
  • Ensuring technical requirements are understood, well defined and managed, subsequently ensuring compliance through the design
  • Ensuring robust quality control procedures are implemented
  • Leading continuous interdisciplinary review processes 
  • Leading the resolution of design conflicts
  • Technical interactions with the client 
  • Integrating across internal and external stakeholders

The successful applicant will be involved at all stages of the project lifecycle, from input at strategic and planning stages, feasibility, concept and detailed design, through to operation and maintenance. The role requires an understanding of our client's business and working very closely with our clients and stakeholders.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to be support business development activities in the Rail Team. The may involve taking part in work winning initiatives and developing our engineering and systems services, particularly with respect to rail infrastructure, advisory and digital tools and capabilities. 

Requirements and Skills
Essential skills and knowledge:

  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent with a relevant professional body
  • Experience of design management on multi-disciplnary rail projects
  • Working knowledge of relevant engineeing industry practices and standards
  • Integration of multiple systems and disciplines resulting in coordinated designs
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proactive, highly motivated and adaptable

Desirable skills and knowledge:

  • Interest and experience in Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance
  • Interest and experience in the application of digital automation on projects
