We offer a broad range of services spanning planning, design, delivery, systems integration, assurance, safety and security assessments, and optimization of railway operation and maintenance performance to unlock the financial value for investors, asset owners, operators and maintainers, while navigating the transition to low carbon and resilient rail. You would be joining our multidisciplinary team focusing on technical excellence and innovative solutions that shape a better future for people and the planet.
The Opportunity
Undertaking rail systems design (signaling, communication system, traction power, overhead catenary, etc.), track and alignment, operations and maintenance planning, testing and commissioning, verification and validation, RAMS and systems assurance, interface design, requirements writing and support requirements engineering activities
Supporting Requirements Engineering activities (creation, definition, decomposition etc.) using IBM Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System Next Generation (DNG) or similar
Reference applicable standards such as International Standardization Organization (ISO) standards, International Electrotechnical Commissioning (IEC) 15288 and International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) guidelines, American Railway Engineer and Maintenance of way Association (AREMA) Manual of Railway Engineering, Agency Design Standards, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Electric Code, and related specifications for design of the above elements
Assisting senior staff on a variety of ongoing and s new transit rail project and subway works across Canada
Supporting efforts for site work on transit rail projects
Coordinating with multiple teams, including rail systems, and working in conjunction with project managers to help complete project work
Writing reports for internal and external purposes based on findings
Presenting technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences
Conducts research and data gathering as the need arises for Technical Advisory work
Serve as key personnel in the requirement management and requirements database work and maintenance
Participating in multiple projects throughout their lifecycles, from market engagement, solution preparation, project execution and delivery, to project closeout
Understanding trends and standard processes applicable to the rail engineering market
Participating in local Professional Associations
Testing and commissioning, verification and validation, RAMS and systems assurance
Is this role right for you?
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Civil, Transportation, Mechanical, Computer, Information Systems or equivalent)
Demonstrate curiosity about Rail & Transit Infrastructure
Sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals related to transportation.
Proficiency in 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD software to lay out right-of-way, rail alignments, drainage systems, roadway design, sidewalks and pedestrian accommodation, utility systems, and grading designs.
The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and outstanding organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills needed for team-based work
Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels
Candidate must be eligible to work in Canada without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future
Preferred:
Master’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Computer, Information Systems or equivalent)
Eligible to become a member of the PEO/OIQ/APEGA
Coursework in transportation design
Knowledge of applicable codes such as AREMA, Agency Design Standards, NEC/NFPA, and related specifications and standards for design of the above elements
Understanding of requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS or Perforce Helix
Comprehension of the Systems Engineering “V” Life Cycle Process
Familiarity with civil engineering design and analysis tools for rail, roads, and/or water systems
Proficiency in data processing and analysis using tools such as Excel, VBA, Python, or other applicable tools.
Evidence of past internship in the transportation sector

Toronto Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $21 to $38 per hour. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level.Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
