We are seeking a dynamic Public Transit Planning Leader for our West Region, to be based in our Los Angeles or San Francisco or Oakland office. This role is pivotal in driving sustainable multi-modal urban transportation solutions. This position requires a deep understanding of the policies, programs, plans, operations, and budgets that influence agency decisions, along with established relationships to effectively engage and serve our clients. Your transit portfolio will be developed based on your professional practice and Arup’s priorities, and may include public transit operations, long-range planning, facilities planning, policy, fleet electrification, and design.
The Opportunity
• Lead the delivery of bus and rail infrastructure and service planning projects. Example projects include bus and passenger rail corridor studies, planning for new service and extensions, planning and conceptual design of stations, stops, terminals, and other supporting facilities.
• Help transit agencies increase ridership, improve their financial position, and provide more cost effective, productive, and equitable services.
• Help transit agencies convert to Zero Emissions Vehicles, reduce emissions and meet other sustainability goals.
• Identify and lead the development and execution of business development strategies to win new projects and contracts and diversify services provided to clients.
• Responsible for projects to be delivered on time, within budget, and to client satisfaction. Monitor project progress, milestones, and deliverables to identify and address potential issues or risks.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients.
• Oversee the preparation of proposals and bid submissions and negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions.
• Identify and mitigate project risks related to technical, regulatory, and contractual requirements and implement quality control measures to monitor and improve project outcomes and client satisfaction.
• Supervise a team of engineers and planners in design project delivery. Provide support and development opportunities through the assignment of work and stretch tasks
• Support the development of technical, commercial, and soft skills development of staff.
The Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, civil engineering, architecture, or a related field.
• Minimum of 12 years of experience in public transit service and/or infrastructure planning
• Experience as a project manager and/or project director is required.
• Experience working in both consulting and public sector is highly desirable.
• Significant experience working with clients and strong relationships in the Northern and/or Southern California market. A candidate with an established profile in the Northern and/or Southern California market is preferred.
• Professional Certifications: PE, AICP, PTP, or similar, or be able to acquire the certification within a year of joining Arup.

Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Los Angeles is $140,000 to $185,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Los Angeles will differ.
