The role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to join our established and growing rail business. You will be part of a diverse collaborative team responsible for the successful delivery of our project and programme management commissions throughout the infrastructure lifecycle for major clients including Network Rail, HS2, Train Operators, TfL and others. There is also the potential to lead and support projects in other infrastructure sectors such as energy, water and aviation.

We are looking for a Project Manager with excellent technical knowledge and experience to join us and become an integral part of our London based team. You will bring a desire to deliver meaningful work with successful outcomes for our clients through innovative solutions.

The role of a Rail Project Manager will be to drive, challenge and contribute to the successful delivery of complex strategic and operational rail projects using best practice PPM knowledge and advisory skills. 

Your typical activities will include:

•    Being the day-to-day project manager on a range of large and small infrastructure projects and programmes.
•    Working as part of a team to deliver commissions to a high standard of quality, and client satisfaction.
•    Ensuring commissions are delivered to a high standard of quality, and client satisfaction.
•    Identifying and mitigating reputational and commercial risks to Arup.

Requirements and skills

You will be able to demonstrate your understanding, skill, and experience in the following areas:

•    An interest in working in the rail sector and a two to five years of transferable or actual rail sector work experience.
•    Knowledge of project and / or programme management.
•    Being in a team managing smaller low risk projects and / or programmes and be able to demonstrate how your contributions made a difference.
•    Able to assess real world project scenarios in line with your experience and plan a course of action that will deliver the required project outcomes.
•    Able to get work done through others by chasing the project team to complete actions.
•    Has a developing professional network.
•    You will also be able to demonstrate one or more of the following:

-    Involved in a project delivering digitally enabled change.
-    Involved in the development or delivery of advisory services to client.
-    Aware of the objectives of sustainable development.

People Skills

You will be able to demonstrate to following people skills:

•    Shares the Arup corporate values.
•    Works collaboratively. Behaves more altruistically than egoistically.
•    Not asking permission to lead while seeking buy-in and respecting the needs for proper governance.
•    Confident communicator both written and verbal.
•    A proven ability to influence peers and Managers.

Technical skills and qualifications

•    NVQ Level Three or equivalent.
•    An interest in becoming a Chartered professional in relevant profession.
•    Working towards achieving professional qualifications in Project and Programme Management e.g. AMP PFQ & PMQ.
