The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Rail Project Manager to work within a multidisciplinary team (in North; based in any of, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Belfast ofices) delivering a portfolio of exciting, varied rail projects as part of an established and successful Rail Business across the UK, Europe and North America.
You will be part of a team responsible for successfully delivering our design commissions for our significant clients, including Network Rail, Translink. contractors and other agencies such as Train Operators, Councils, Passenger Transport Executives and government agencies.
Ensuring the successful management and delivery of technically excellent multidisciplinary rail projects and bids across our UK Rail portfolio, you will be responsible for, and typical activities will include:
This role will take responsibility for the commercial success of projects; The successful delivery of the project to agreed targets, e.g., programme, budget, and quality; Facilitating communication, co-ordination and information flow with the Client and within the project team, including any subcontractors and partners (internal and external); With input from the Discipline Leads, agreeing commercial trading arrangements and communication plan for working with other teams across the business; Assembling and owning the project delivery programme and delivery plans; Closing out the project on completion, archiving project documentation, updating market information, ensuring that lessons learnt are captured and disseminated internally and ensuring that a Client Satisfaction survey is initiated.

Is this role right for you?
Reporting to our Senior Project Manager and supported by our discipline Technical Heads you will work with our rail design teams throughout bid and project stages. You will also develop relationships with our wider engineering community and our client's engineering and project teams.
Ideally you will hold an appropriate university degree or equivalent qualification with chartership membership of the ICE, or similar.
We are seeking competency in the Design and Project Management of multidisciplinary rail projects (in the following areas: masterplans, enhancements, remodelling, renewals, depots, stations, civils, decarbonisation, introduction of new rolling stock).
The following skills and knowledge are of interest:
- A broad understanding of the rail industry and its importance in achieving net zero targets
- Experience of managing design projects to time, cost and quality objectives and familiar with programming and earned value techniques.
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and within a larger multi-discipline team.
- Customer focused with excellent client relationship management skills.
- Be available to travel across the UK and work away from home on client sites if required.
- Competency ideally in Microsoft Excel, Power Bi, low-code automation, and data analysis
