The Opportunity

Our current key clients include Welsh Water, Thames Water and Severn Trent Water and we are actively bidding for SROs and wider AMP8 opportunities across the UK.  Arup has a key focus on people, excellence, influence, digital and sustainability and we look forward to contributions to these areas of interest.

As a Principal Engineer within our established and friendly team you will be responsible for small to medium sized teams and projects, bringing long term benefit to stakeholders. The main purpose of the role will be acting as a lead civil and lead design engineer providing expert guidance and technical leadership to our engineering teams, along with ensuring the highest standards of quality assurance and safe by design practices are maintained throughout the project lifecycle. You will also be driving digital transformation initiatives that streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and improve the overall performance of our project delivery systems.

Day to day the role will also require collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including client representatives, contractors, and sub-consultants. And also continuously mentoring and developing junior engineers, nurturing their skills, and helping them grow into future technical leaders.

If you also wish to develop as a project manager, responsibilities will also include acting as key contact with the client for project delivery, project team management, programme, commercial and risk management.

Career development is taken very seriously, and you will work towards leading larger projects and teams, developing your skills in a technical and / or managerial capacity to develop your expertise in an area of your choosing.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We are keen to speak to people who have:

  • Proven experience delivering high quality civil engineering designs for water companies and / or contractor clients.
  • Technical design skills for non infrastructure assets such as water / sewage treatment works, pumping stations etc.
