The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a principal engineer to join our creative and friendly West Building Engineering Group in our Bristol Office. Our team have worked on an array of amazing projects in the UK and internationally including Abu Dhabi International Airport, the Bristol Beacon Concert Hall, St.Sidwells Point in Exeter which is the largest Passivhaus certified leisure centre in the UK, commercial office developments in Bristol City Centre, and healthcare projects. We have seen strong economic growth in the West and are looking for someone to join our flourishing team, with the opportunity to excel both professionally and personally.

The team is looking to strengthen its senior leadership within the public health team through the recruitment of an individual who can provide a combination of technical, project and team leadership skills. You will be working in an interdisciplinary environment and aim to design buildings that maximise value for our clients whilst minimising their environmental impact. You will also work very closely with colleagues and clients; you will be responsible for interpreting the client brief and developing designs at all stages from scheme through to detail.  Acting independently to investigate solutions, you will explore options, work closely with external collaborators, and lead a multidisciplinary design team to develop and communicate design solutions.

As a senior engineer on our team you will be responsible and accountable for the overall design, technical delivery, quality, and management of the building services design of complex projects, co-ordinating people and resources, within a defined budget and timescales across a number of sectors, taking a lead role in the public health discipline and apply your engineering expertise to shape our projects whilst providing support in the preparation of bids.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Be degree qualified in Public Health or related subject and chartered engineer status.
  • Lead on technical excellence and is capable of delivering high-quality public health solutions on time and on budget.
  • Have a strong awareness of appropriate sector specific legislation, code requirements and design guidance
  • Be experienced in managing the project team and staff performance, through effective monitoring and coaching
  • Understand and manage the scope and relevant programme constraints of projects, demonstrating experience of overall responsibility for financial success for projects and teams/business.
