The Opportunity

We are looking for a passionate and dynamic Principal Engineer with excellent design, technical, and sustainability skills who enjoys working collaboratively in multi-professional design teams, undertaking a client-facing role and taking responsibility for projects from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results. You will join our creative and friendly Building Engineering team based in Southampton. A team that seeks to set new standards in the built environment.

Is this role right for you?

In this role you will provide management to the MEP team on a portfolio of projects locally, nationally and internationally, having the responsibility of ensuring correct technical approaches are applied to the project are carried out appropriately to undertake the task at hand. You will be expected to have project management skills and will have remit for the financial performance of the projects including liaising directly with clients on fees and commercial matters, effectively overseeing total project delivery by enabling effective team management and delegation to ensure the efficient and satisfactory delivery of multiple and complex projects, reporting to the Project Director.

Challenging orthodoxy will be instinctive to you. You will possess ambition on the Digital front and seek to lead its evolution in the built environment. You will be able to demonstrate solid experience in the field of Electrical Engineering Systems for building services across a range of project scales and building types, and a background of multi-disciplinary design by bringing the best of Arup together. In this role you will also produce engineering designs, calculations and specifications, using appropriate technical software and supervise and coordinate the work of others and coordinating work with engineers of other disciplines including in-house specialists. You will participate in and lead bids for new opportunities including developing fee proposals and attending interviews.

Requirements

We are looking for people who:

  • Are BSc qualified in Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • Have achieved Chartered Engineer status via an appropriate professional institution such as IET or CIBSE or working toward this.
  • Have extensive experience in winning and delivering a range of projects.
  • Proven people management skills and are familiar with managing staff at all levels.
  • Experienced in sustainable building design and in satisfying the regulatory and voluntary codes associated with sustainability and energy strategy.
