The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for an Associate in Aviation Security to join the Security Advisory practice in our Resilience, Security & Risk team based in the UKIMEA region.

You will partner with clients in the aviation sector to develop professional services in aviation security, working alongside subject-matter experts, resilience, security & risk peers and design team members. You will assist clients in evaluating and managing security risks in the design and operation of airport infrastructure, including management of engagement with regulators and other stakeholders, to develop solutions that address aviation security risks and other design and operational criteria.

The role will see you playing a key part in the development and implementation of the strategic direction for our aviation security service offering. As part of your role, you will be market-facing, working extensively with and in front of clients in the aviation sector across the UKIMEA and in other regions (notably Europe) to comprehend their needs and partner with them in the development and implementation of proportionate, sustainable and innovative solutions. Substantial travel is required as a core part of the role.

As part of your role, you will develop a pipeline of fee-earning work in aviation security, be the principal consultant for the delivery of these commissions including all aspects of project and commercial management, and will have responsibility for line management, management of performance and career development of members. You will also identify opportunities to add value for clients through other Arup services and will lead the integration of those services to provide a seamless, excellent overall service to our clients.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

The successful candidate will be a well-credentialled, technically excellent and inspiring leader with a qualification in security risk management, political science, international relations, terrorism studies or an engineering discipline .

We are seeking the following skills and knowledge:

  • Professional qualification with a relevant recognised body e.g. Register of Security Engineers and Specialists (RSES), Chartered Security Professional (CSyP) or Chartered Management Consultant (ChMC)
  • A track record in professional services consultancy, with experience of developing opportunities, a strong win-rate in conversion to fee-earning commissions, excellence in all parts of client delivery and success in growing client accounts through repeat commissions
  • Recognised as a subject-matter with an interest in applying your skills across a broad range of tasks and projects, working in partnership with many different specialists
  • The ability to convey complex technical information and concepts clearly and to all levels of an organisation – with a particular focus on conveying information to non-experts and excellence in report-writing, oral communication and visual presentation skills
  • The ability to effectively assess and evaluate physical and personnel security risk through threat, vulnerability and risk assessment, and to develop proportionate, sustainable and innovative solutions to treat and manage risk that also answer to other design and operational criteria
  • An appreciation of design of engineering infrastructure and systems, particularly in the aviation sector.

Experience of, or interest in, some of the following would be beneficial: security governance, behavioural science, personnel security, study of hostile reconnaissance, deterrence communications and insider risk.
