Mechanical Team Lead
We are looking for a leader that will grow and develop our team and empower the next generation of leadership. You will engage with our Clients and demonstrate Arup differentiators through leading project delivery, and apply innovative design strategies to achieve high level of energy performance and low carbon footprint in the built environment.
Responsibilities
- Leading and developing a team of mechanical engineers with a focus on sustainable design.
- Manage current and future performance of the team by managing work and developing and mentoring the team for growth
- Responsible for the recruitment, performance, development, morale and motivation of specified staff.
- Promoting learning from successes and problems within the group and across the firm.
- Extensive experience with HVAC and plumbing systems in buildings, sustainable, Low Carbon and innovative strategies on projects
- Leading mechanical system design and management for large, complex projects – coordinating with other Arup disciplines and external Architects within tight time and budget constraints.
- Attend meetings and communicate with clients to establish their needs and discuss design issues with them.
- The development and implementation of mechanical team plan in line with business strategy; contributes to the development of the business strategy.
- Market facing, business development capabilities, and experience with putting fees and proposals together.
- Capable of procuring work and identifying potential opportunities.
- Responsible and accountable for client relations (internal and/or external).
- Represents Arup in the industry nationally and internationally, e.g., think tanks, standard committees and conferences.
Your technical and personal competencies
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Technical skills: 13+ years of industry experience with focus on sustainable design
- Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals, deep experience in project delivery
- Passion for sustainable, Low Carbon and innovative strategies on projects
- Technical understanding of energy modelling.
- Understanding of BIM and Revit MEP
- Ability and enthusiastic to develop and mentor junior team members in their career development, including technical and soft skills
- Experience of knowledge transfer and capacity building with client teams and internal teams, supporting their learning and capability building as a key outcome
- Proven capability to easily “tune in” to the client organisations we are working with – their values and their character.
- Experience in putting fees together.
- Ability to network effectively, internally and externally, to promote Arup and establish/maintain client relationships.
- Excellent planning and organization skills required for fast-paced environments.
- Ability to manage project change and ambiguity.
- Highly motivated, inquisitive, proactive and willing to take on new challenges.
- Collaborative, helpful, “can-do”, and Client focused attitude.
