Our New York City office is looking to add a Mechanical Engineer Leader to our multi-disciplinary buildings engineering team. In this leadership role, we are looking for a candidate with the ability to manage multidisciplinary projects, lead the delivery of high-quality mechanical engineering work, build strong client relationships, and be active in the development and mentoring of our engineers. The candidate should have extensive design experience with HVAC systems in buildings including sustainable, low carbon, and innovative strategies demonstrated on projects.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Leading mechanical engineering design on projects
  • Delivering high-quality engineering work, achieve internal project goals (profit, etc), develop and maintain good client relations
  • Assisting and supervising staff on a variety of projects in such markets as commercial, aviation, education, arts and cultures, energy, and science and industry
  • Coordinating with multiple disciplines and working in conjunction with project managers to help complete the work you're doing
  • Writing reports for internal and external purposes based on findings
  • Presenting technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences
  • Participating in local Professional Associations
  • Providing tangible leadership for the project team and client goals, progress, and direction
  • Reviewing and preparing commercial proposals and scoping documents
  • Providing support and development opportunities through the assignment of work and stretching tasks
  • Fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence
  • Building a climate of trust and openness in the team
  • Developing individuals in their technical specialization
  • Delivering timely feedback and recognition to others

 

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical or Architectural Engineering
  • 10 or more years of experience designing building HVAC systems, including airside and hydronic system components
  • Professional Engineering License in the US required or ability to obtain professional license within 1 year of joining Arup
  • Experience leading project teams on medium to large scale projects
  • The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work, and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment
  • Experience with 3D BIM / CAD software such AutoCAD MEP or Revit MEP
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working
  • Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels
