The Opportunity  
 
You will play a key role in the Buildings Management Team, taking responsibility for the operational performance, technical excellence, and leadership of the Mechanical discipline, as well as project delivery. Additionally, you will serve as the Project Manager (PM) for selected multi-disciplinary or single-disciplinary projects. A proactive, hands-on approach is essential for all aspects of this role.

Key responsibilities

Business Leadership and Development  
•    Lead and support your team to ensure Health & Safety is embedded in all work practices, aligning with Arup policies.  
•    Engage with wider Arup teams to improve communication and design processes and manage recruitment within the mechanical discipline. Conduct inductions and performance appraisals to support individual and business development, including succession planning and career development.  
•    Develop and deliver training sessions, contribute to monthly leadership meetings, and drive the implementation of the Practice and Region strategy. 
•    Practice and Region strategy. Attend and lead team and project meetings, cascade relevant information, and encourage feedback. Ensure AMS and IPP compliance across your team and projects. 
•    Contribute to business development through external market activities and functions. Develop client relationships, co-sell Arup services, and act as Bid Manager on selected prospects. Provide technical leadership for prequalification documents, RFPs, and client inquiries. 
 
Project Management 
•    Act as Project Manager on selected projects, ensuring successful delivery of high-quality projects. Manage the contractual relationship from proposal to contract, engaging with Arup overseas teams for cost-efficient delivery. 
•    Accountable for the formation of the contractual relationship between the business and the client; taking the process from proposal to contract, utilising the advice of the support functions 
•    Engage with Arup overseas teams at the Prospect stage through to completion to ensure the most cost-efficient high-quality delivery of their projects. 
•    Ensure proactive project planning, stakeholder and risk management, and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. Oversee project financial targets, forecasts, and working capital management, including invoicing and collection of outstanding invoices. Contribute to monthly management project                     reports. 
•    Support the overseeing and delivery of the process of working capital management from inception to completion within set deadlines; This includes the timing of invoicing, the review of Work in Progress (WIP) and the collection of outstanding invoices from clients whilst utilising the advice of the support functions       as       necessary

Technical Competencies  
•    Stay updated with industry developments and support the technical capabilities of the discipline and company.
•    Maintain contact with key technical leaders across Arup offices, lead technical solutions on projects, drive innovation, and utilize technological advancements. Contribute to and lead design reviews in alignment with the AMS system.  
•    Act as the technical authority for mechanical engineering, writing design reports, specifications, and producing mechanical designs. 
 
Is this role right for you  
•    The candidate should hold a first or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or other recognized qualification within the construction industry and be professionally qualified (chartered) and/or aspiring to register. 
•    Minimum 18 years of experience with 8+ of relevant experience in working on projects in the Middle East, particularly in the UAE and KSA, either in-country or from a remote design office. 
•    Must have strong experience in strong client-facing skills and experience and proven ability to lead and manage engineering teams and multi-disciplinary projects. 
•    Knowledge of market trends and competitiveness positioning with demonstrated proficiency in project bidding and proposal preparation with exceptional skills and knowledge of working in a design consultancy, with a strong understanding of international codes, standards and regulations. 
•    Must be passionate about innovative ideas with a proven track record in delivering energy-efficient system and excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. 
•    Should have extensive experience working in a design consultancy, both as a designer and a technical authority, with a proven track record in delivering projects in collaboration with remote design centers with No no restrictions on traveling overseas (e.g., UAE and KSA) for client meetings and workshops 
•    Membership in a relevant professional body is required and chartered Engineer status is required
