The Opportunity
Our London maritime team is part of the South Transport group comprising over 400 enthusiastic staff based in 8 Fitzroy Street, London W1. Of these, a core of 35 staff specialise in maritime projects and others interchange between maritime and other transport or energy infrastructure projects. The team and wider maritime business are growing significantly, and you will be a key member of the team. The team offers clients the innovation and technical know-how to successfully plan and deliver their projects on schedule, on budget, and sustainably without compromise.
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Associate to lead our Maritime D&B infrastructure design projects, normally in the role of Project or Commercial Manager. Projects are likely to include ferry terminals, green energy marine terminals and offshore wind ports in the London maritime team. This role is pivotal in project delivery, delighting our clients, bringing together high performing and collaborative teams, while maintaining technical excellence. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in successful commercial delivery of D&B projects in the sector. In addition to a focus on project delivery, the successful candidate must have demonstrable ability to create and maintain strong and collaborative client relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
• D&B Project Delivery: Lead the successful delivery of significant D&B projects within the maritime sector; with a focus on delivery of effective design solutions and meeting agreed commercial and programme outcomes. Management of potential risks that could impact project progress or outcomes.
• Commercial: Hold commercial responsibility for projects. Experience of various contract forms and their successful operation. Advise and assist others in the commercial aspects of projects. Develop the team’s understanding and capability in project and commercial management.
• Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for Projects, maintaining excellent clear and consistent communication with clients and other stakeholders. The ability to hold challenging commercial / contractual discussions and still maintain strong relationships
• Client Relationships: Become a key member of one or more of our contractor relationship teams, ensuring strategic alignment and fully collaborative relationships are developed and maintained. Positioning Arup as a trusted advisor in a mutually beneficial relationship. Making new connections, utilising existing connections and assisting with market positioning for future projects.
• Team Development: Contribute to training and developing the team to deliver projects to programme, on budget and consistently, whilst maintaining the high quality of our work.
• Bidding: Lead the commercial preparation and submission of proposals and bids for maritime D&B projects.
• Networking: Represent Arup at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities. Enhance our visibility and reputation in the D&B ports and maritime sector.
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in civil engineering and a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers. A project management qualification (e.g. MAPM) is strongly desirable.
• Experience of D&B projects in the ports and maritime sector and a strong understanding of the UK maritime D&B market. Knowledge of the UK defence sector is desirable.
• Proven track record of leading D&B design on ports and maritime projects with values over £40m (or equivalent).
• Driven and enthusiastic with a demonstrable proactive approach to projects and client relationships.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation abilities, with a proven capacity to adapt messaging style to provide clarity to diverse audiences.
• Project leadership experience with the ability to bring together, motivate and sustain high performing, collaborative delivery teams.
• Holders of UK Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and National Security Vetting Security Check (SC) are desirable.
