As Managing Counsel - SIM, you will be the key legal leader supporting Arup's operations across Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia, playing a pivotal role in the Australasian Region. Collaborating closely with in-house legal teams, business leaders, and external partners, you'll ensure that Arup's interests are protected while fostering strong relationships across the firm. Your ability to guide colleagues in navigating legal complexities will be essential in achieving the best outcomes for the business.

The Opportunity

  • Provide legal advice to the SIM business and the wider Australasia Region.
  • Lead contract negotiations and support the business on high-value, complex projects across various stages, including bidding, contract review, negotiation, and project initiation.
  • Managing a direct report in the Singapore office while serving as the legal lead for the SIM business, which includes:
  • Collaborating with business leadership teams in the region.
  • Representing SIM as part of the senior legal leadership team for the Australasian Region.
  • Contribute to the development of legal guidance materials and training for the Region.
  • Support the commercial and contract management of high-risk projects throughout their lifecycle, including the preparation of variations, program changes, and contract notices.
  • Assist in claims management in partnership with the Australasian Managing Counsel – Claims & Disputes.
  • Participate in activities and tasks within both the Australasia Regional Legal Team and the Global Legal Team.
  • Act as a positive influence within the business to achieve practical and commercially sound contract outcomes.


Is this role right for you?

  • Current legal practicing certificate in any of the SIM, Australian, New Zealand, or UK jurisdictions.
  • A minimum of 7 years post-qualification experience (PQE).
  • Extensive in-house legal experience within the engineering, architecture, construction, infrastructure, and/or property sectors, or equivalent
  • Experience in private practice at a top-tier or specialized construction law firm.
  • Strong professional networks within the SIM markets where Arup operates.
  • Experience in risk management, governance, compliance, and/or dispute resolution is highly desirable.
