Low Carbon Engineer

Building Services - Mechanical
Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. Through our work, we make a positive difference in the world.
Based in the Midlands, our Building Engineering group continues to win major work in a variety of sectors.  Sustainability is at the heart of all we do, and we strive to implement and move towards zero carbon solutions in order to meet the regulatory targets and our client’s sustainability goals. We are driven to offer our clients leading edge advice and be at cutting edge of the market.
Reporting directly to the leadership of the local building engineering group, you will be a key member within this multi-disciplinary and versatile team.  Your skills will be instrumental in shaping and delivering our sustainability advice. You will have opportunities to develop leadership skills.
Working very closely with colleagues and clients, you will be responsible for interpreting the client brief and developing zero carbon strategies at all stages.  Acting independently to investigate solutions, and keeping up to date with regulatory requirements, you will explore options, work closely with external collaborators and lead a team to develop and communicate sustainable design solutions.
You will be an inquisitive and creative, solution-orientated yet collaborative, persuasive and engaging individual who gives their all to ensure the client is happy and the solution both high-quality and practical.
Working closely with a Project Director and our client at inception of a project, you will be responsible for developing and recording a path to Net Zero Carbon.  This will guide and inform the client on their obligations beyond the development project and provide an agreed basis for Project Engineers to progress the design commission.  You will work in close collaboration with the Lead Engineers who will be responsible for integrating energy solutions into the design of the building as a whole.
In addition to supporting design commissions a significant aspect of the role will be to support development of new business.  Working initially with Project Directors you will support our offer to new and existing clients who require support in determining long terms carbon strategy and energy infrastructure solutions.  The successful candidate will show potential and appetite to embrace an increasingly independent role in identifying new business and approaching new clients.
A key part of role will be to keep up to date with internal and external developments on zero carbon approaches and communicate these to the wider buildings group and clients, helping lead engineers to shape individual project strategies and communicating these ideas directly to clients and the design teams.
