Arup’s Sydney office as an opportunity for two lighting designers to join an established, creative focused lighting team, one on a permanent basis and one on a 12 month contract. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team working across a broad spectrum of projects in various business sectors; not just pure lighting design, but research, content and digital media. 

About you
Our Lighting team has a diverse mix of people skills and backgrounds that we truly believe contributes to more inclusive and higher quality design outcomes with tangible social outcomes that we are proud of. Take, for example, Arup’s work on designing cities after dark to make cities safer for girls and women. Our team is diverse, and we hope that you will bring your own unique background and experiences to Arup. Some experience we would be looking for that a candidate would bring:

•    Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in a design focussed discipline (i.e. lighting design, architecture/interior design, industrial design, landscape design, planning) or similar area;
•    Minimum of 3 -5 years’ experience in architectural lighting design with knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and codes of practice;
•    Skills in visually communicating including hand sketching and software packages and in graphical communications software (Photoshop, InDesign);
•    Experience in documentation and BIM software i.e. Revit;
•    Experience in technical lighting issues and calculations (i.e. Dialux, Dialux Evo AGI32).
•    A growing interest in BIM automation, coding (Python) will be an advantage within this role.

About the role
Reporting to the Lighting Leader the role will focus on innovation, solid delivery and will also help mentor more junior and graduate staff. The role will include the design and documentation of projects or portions of projects with support from the experienced local and regional teams. You will have the chance to grow your skills, working with market leading clients, architects, interior designers and artists to deliver stimulating people focused experiences within the built environment. You’ll also have access to a wide range of local and global skills networks of technical experts, and ongoing learning & development options. Tasks and responsibilities might include:

•    Undertaking an active role within the design team, collaborating in the design, management and documentation of lighting designs,
•    Meeting project goals and timelines, while supporting healthy financial outcomes to ensure the team’s ongoing success.
•    Carrying out lighting calculations as part of design and be proficient in Dialux, Dialux Evo and AGi32,
•    Delivering designs through to construction and finalisation phases.
•    Developing simple and elegant design approaches to complex design problems,
