We are looking for a leader who has a strong background in providing design and engineering services to the Life Sciences sector to join our team in California. The ideal candidate will provide technical expertise, leadership, and client relationship management to grow our established team. You will play a meaningful role in unlocking broader Life sciences opportunities across the West coast and more widely across the US and contribute to the overall strategy and leadership of the geography.

Responsibilities:

Responsible and accountable for client/collaborator relationships (internal and/or external):

·       Maintaining regular contact with existing key clients/partners and proactively developing new relationships.

·       Actively networking, bringing people, opportunities, and activities together to unlock projects and build new partnerships.

·       Representing Arup at the highest levels (think tanks, national policy and international conferences) promoting Arup Science expertise and ensuring we are seen as a leader, innovator, and partner of choice in the sector.

 

Responsible for the current and future performance of the Life Science business in the West coast as part of the wider team:

·       Development and implementation of the Science business strategy for the West coast; ensuring these aligns with the overarching regional and Global business strategies.

·       Setting and meeting agreed upon financial performance metrics, including sales and project performance.

·       Making tactical recommendations, decisions, and systems improvements that push forward the performance of the team and their projects.

 

Responsible as a project director for the design, delivery, and management of multiple concurrent projects of scale in the Science market:

·       Communicating and liaising with clients and collaborators, and leading client meetings to deliver innovative solutions.

·       Forecasting and planning future resources, being accountable for financial performance. Proactively establishing project plans and leading those teams to commercial success.

·       Negotiating appropriate types of contracts and conditions of engagement for Arup services and sub-consultants which minimize risk and increase the value that the firm can deliver.

Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.

·       15+ years experience on the design side of the built environment.

·       10+ years experience on the design-side of project delivery on recent medium to large scale projects in the Science sector such as laboratories, R&D facilities, pharma, etc. (As Engineer of Record)

·       A valid Professional Engineering license in California

·       Experience in work winning, business development, and multidisciplinary project management, with outstanding networking skills and a focus on sustainable design

·       Showcase expertise in hiring, developing and leading teams to success and planning and leading change

·       Established strong commercial foresight, financial skills, and experience being held accountable to financial targets.

·       Proven negotiation, influencing, and presentation skills.

 

Hiring Range: The good faith base salary hiring range for this job performed in California is $180,000 and $240,000. Benefits are not included in the base salary range. Summary of benefits are included in this posting with details provided to applicants at the time of interview. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of California will differ.
