Transportation is a key economic sector impact in the creation of a resilient society and our team works at the forefront of this field to find opportunities where conventional designs can be influenced. 

 

The Opportunity

To support our continued growth and expansion into new markets we are seeking a junior technician to join our Transportation Planning team to work collaboratively with other engineers, planners and technicians on a wide variety of projects. These projects will typically include new public realm schemes, transport infrastructure and development masterplans. The candidate will work under the leadership of a senior technician who will direct the work to be carried in a fast paced environment where the candidate will be expected to learn as work progresses. The role offers lots of opportunities to advance within the organisation both in Ireland and globally. 

This is an opportunity to join the Transportation Planning team on the forefront of technical design and to gain on hand experience and technical skills and knowledge alongside experts in this field. There will also be opportunity for structured training and mentorship.  

 

 

As a Junior Technician at Arup, you will:

  • Assist in the design and delivery of a variety of transport  projects, collaborating with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams. Produce high-quality detailed General Arrangement drawings, plans and sections using AutoCAD. Production of 3D models using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit and other BIM software

  • Work under instruction given by senior technician or senior engineers working within the transportation team. From time to time you might do work with other disciplines / teams within Arup.

  • Contribute to discussions on design options available to solve problems encountered

  • Assist in the development of other team members where required.

  • Contribute to the development of good practice and processes through involvement with the Arup skills network.

  • Attend and participate in, presentations and workshops.

  • In the long-term, you will strive to understand the design process the engineers utilise within the team, helping the technicians explore the capabilities of various software, and developing ways in which the software can streamline the delivery of our work.

We also value a candidate that is:

 

  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated with an NFQ Level 6 Higher Certificate or Advanced Certificate qualification in a technical qualification such as engineering, CAD, technical design or similar.

  • Able to demonstrate a sound technical base

  • Able to cooperate with others in a team environment effectively and contributes in generating ideas

  • An excellent communicator who brings teamwork skills and the ability to contribute effectively in a collaborative environment

  • Working to a plan and quality standards and meeting deadlines set

  • Understands how to develop self in self, in design, technical and generic skills
