Highway Engineer
Arup currently has a large workload in our Transport Infrastructure team which includes highways, rail, aviation, maritime and bridges/civil structures. The team currently has more than 80 staff working on a variety of projects across our Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway offices.
We currently have a requirement for an Engineer with 3 to 5 years post graduate highways experience to join our growing highways group in Galway. The successful candidate will work within the Transport Infrastructure team while also working directly with the Transportation and Urban Design team.
The successful candidate will gain invaluable experience within an established consultancy in a friendly office environment. The successful candidate will be involved in a diverse and challenging range of projects for high profile civil engineering clients within Ireland and further afield. This role also offers the successful candidate long-term opportunities for career development.
Current Projects
-
Rural and Urban Road Improvement Schemes working for Transport Infrastructure Ireland and local authorities;
-
Public Transport Priority Projects and Development of TII Design Standards and associated research projects with European partners such as Conference of European Directors of Road (CEDR); and
-
Design and Build / PPP projects working for leading Irish and overseas contraactors.
The Role
The role includes design, management and coordination, often liaising with other multi-disciplinary contributors to projects. You will be required to deliver projects to the required technical standards in a timely manner, reporting to the team leader or project manager as appropriate.
You will:

Prepare technical designs for highway projects, including geometrical alignment and drainage, drawings, reports, correspondence and other outputs in accordance with approved design standards and procedures in line with the delivery programme;

Ensure that relevant legislation, regulations, policies, strategies and technical guidance is interpreted, followed and communicated across the team with guidance from senior members of staff;

Implement the appropriate QA procedures for all deliverables and ensure compliance

with H&S requirements; and
-
Communicate effectively and in a team environment with a broad cross-section of
-
individuals. This would typically include but is not limited to; highway colleagues and project managers, other internal design disciplines, clients and contractors.
Qualifications/Experience
-
Level 8 Degree in Civil Engineering or similar;
-
Minimum of 3 to 5 years post graduate experience, preferably in a consultancy environment;

Chartered or working towards chartered professional status;

Good written and verbal communication skills; and
-
Ability to work as part of a team.
Key Experience:

Alignment Design (MX Roads, Open Roads, Civil 3D or equivalent);

Drainage Design (Micro drainage); and

Contract Documentation Preparation.
