Heritage Integrated Service Leader
Joining Arup
Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
We are looking for a Heritage Integrated Service Leader, responsible for developing our work in Heritage and taking our integrated service to market.
Our work spans the iconic and the unconventional, from securing the future of one of the world’s finest medieval cathedrals, at York Minster, adding a new layer to London’s historic public transport network, through our work on the Elizabeth Line, sparking regeneration with a rediscovered Shakespeare theatre to transforming the British Museum in one of the world’s largest cultural renovations, and finishing the Sagrada Familia.
At Arup we are committed to Total Design – taking a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to our work, to tackle building the best team for the task and supporting our clients from before project inception through the full project lifecycle. Our work delivers value for our clients and the planet through striving for excellence and innovation.
The Opportunity
You will be part of the Technical Specialist Services, a team of 600 experts spread across the UK, India, Africa and the Middle East, representing 15 specialist disciplines. Our teams collaborate to create solutions for some of the world’s greatest design challenges, bringing an unparalleled breadth and depth of expertise to all parts of the built and natural environments.
You will bring together the most relevant expertise, drawing from all of Arup’s disciplines – including diverse heritage subject matter experts around the firm, for whom this is a new opportunity to operate in an integrated manner. You will work dynamically with these cohorts brought together to work in a ‘studio’ approach, drawn from across different disciplines according to the specific needs of the client.
Your work will focus on growing an integrated heritage business across areas of the built environment where a holistic consideration of heritage will be crucial to the best design outcomes. This could range from more traditional heritage work such as conservation architecture, through to working with architects from the early stages of design to ensure new buildings are designed to become the heritage assets of tomorrow, working across a wide range of projects in which the critical question of significance needs to be considered and addressed.
You will be empowered to take an ambitious approach to work-winning and growing our business across the built environment where a holistic consideration of heritage is crucial to the best design outcomes. You’ll monitor market trends and competitor activities and create opportunities for other Arup teams and other collaborators that align with our values and supplement our expertise.
As experienced and collaborative leader you’ll grow this studio, lead projects and expand our client base. You’ll maintain your own established network, to whom this new and holistic approach to the market would be of interest. You will provide thought leadership and build market awareness of the Heritage expertise within Arup with internal and external stakeholders.
We’re committed to holistic and cross-disciplinary approach to our work, building the best team for the task and supporting our clients from before project inception through the full project lifecycle. Our work delivers value for our clients and the planet through striving for excellence and innovation.
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

- A passion for diversity, recognising the innovation and competitive edge that comes from a diverse, highly skilled team where equal opportunities are truly valued
- A focus on customer satisfaction and high-quality service delivery, with strong interpersonal skills and responsiveness
- Ability to lead and inspire across diverse perspectives of deep domain expertise to achieve goals that are greater than the sum of their parts and delivered in a way to best respond to the needs and ambitions of our clients
- The ability to empower others to succeed, giving staff the confidence and support to thrive, develop and excel at what they do
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills with both non-technical and technical audiences, managing stakeholders

- Knowledge of the built environment sector
- Awareness of key policy and legislation impacting the Heritage sector in the UK, and preferably Middle East, Africa, India and Europe
