Job Title: Health and Safety Consultant (CDM)
Location: London

The Health & Safety (H&S) consultancy team provides professional health, safety and CDM services to a range of external and internal clients. Construction-related H&S and CDM services provided by the team are of strategic importance to design commissions undertaken by Arup, ensuring that the company discharges its statutory CDM obligations as a designer and/or principal designer. 

The team supports national and local infrastructure projects as well as major buildings commissions including APHA and the Life and Mind Building. The team provides CDM and H&S services to energy and renewables projects, a sector which is expected to grow significantly. 

Job Overview
Provide general and specialist health and safety and CDM advice and support for a mix of external clients and the internal business. Provide design health and safety support solutions for internal and external clients to ensure compliance with duties imposed by CDM Regulations 2015. The post-holder will provide a range of services including strategic H&S guidance and planning, design risk management, procedures, safety compliance, audits and developing and implementing training programmes

Work as a member of the firm’s health and safety consultancy team in providing health and safety services to internal and external clients. Responsible for carrying out the full range of design health and safety and risk management services with minimal acclimatisation on new projects. The post supports Arup’s design activities as well as providing a range of consultancy services including strategic, tactical and operational aspects of our clients’ businesses. It will include writing policies and standards, carrying out inspections and audits, writing project progress reports, engaging directly with clients on a project basis (may be sole responsible for the client’s relationship). Additionally, the post-holder will actively contribute to business development of the team and the wider company, assisting with bids and proposals. Independence in managing finances of projects is a key requirement as is the ability to establish long term client relationships and to identify potential opportunities. Although this role is to deliver CDM and safety by design services, a knowledge or interest in general health and safety would be an advantage.  

Requirements and Skills
•    Identify and address differences and assist in resolving potential conflicts.
•    Remain firm whilst maintaining good relations with all parties.
•    Liaise with stakeholders and manage sensitive relationships.
•    Maintain good communications with the client.
•    Succinctly report progress and author reports that do the same.
•    Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams.
•    Front corporate training in a knowledgeable and authoritative manner.

•    First degree or equivalent in engineering, construction or science.
•    Working towards chartered status with a relevant organisation (e.g., IOSH, APS or an engineering professional body).
•    Experience delivering a broad range of CDM/H&S related advice with experience in major projects.
•    Good client facing and excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, self-motivated.
•    Proficient in Microsoft applications.
