The Opportunity

Arup is seeking to recruit a Health and Safety Assistant Manager to work on the BusConnects Dublin Core Bus Corridors Infrastructure Works (CBCIW) project. The CBCIW project involves the development of continuous bus priority infrastructure and improved pedestrian and cycling facilities on key radial corridors across the Dublin region. Being commutable distance from Dublin is essential as you will be required to attend office and go on site.

 

The successful candidate will provide assistance and support to the CBCIW Health and Safety Manager in carrying out any necessary health and safety activities during the delivery of the CBCIW project. The Health and Safety Assistant Manager will act as a source of expert technical advice, providing assurance, ensuring compliance, and carrying out due diligence on matters relating to health and safety to ensure that CBCIW is delivered safely. The successful candidate will lead by example and serve as a role model in ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are adopted across CBCIW.

 

As a Health and Safety Assistant Manager at Arup, you will:

  • Work with Irish Government Regulations governing construction health and safety including the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013
  • Work with other Irish Government Regulations governing health and safety including the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007
  • Undertake and discharge the duties of the Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) on the CBCIW project schemes
  • Be actively involved with the development and implementation of the Safety Management System for the CBCIW project team
  • Undertake site inspections and audits of contractor schemes as required
  • Track contractor Health and Safety performance on schemes
  • Report on Health and Safety matters to the CBCIW Health and Safety Manager and client as required
  • Drive best practice in technical activities, processes, policies and standards
  • Work within safety critical and regulated environments such as within live, urban environments
  • Deal with a range of stakeholders at all levels across the organisation influencing the improvement of processes and providing guidance to support the CBCIW project delivery and reporting

Experience

  • Required to have 5+ years’ experience leading and embedding health and safety practices and a proven track record of carrying out health and safety activities in high value road and / or infrastructure projects or projects of a similar scale and complexity to CBCIW.

     

Skills

It is desirable for the Health and Safety Assistant Manager to possess the following skills and experience:

  • Fully proficient in the use of MS Office applications and other project tools and methodologies

  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to govern and drive outcomes to ensure high quality service delivery

  • Ability to deal with and resolve unforeseen risks and issues

  • Ability to step back from the detail and take a holistic overview

  • Ability to prioritise effectively, meet deadlines and deliver consistent service

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Ability to manage client expectations and deliver within agreed parameters

  • Ability to work in a challenging environment both on their own initiative and as part of a team

Formal Education Qualifications

  • Required to have a bachelor’s degree in a construction-related subject (or equivalent)

  • Required to have a Health and Safety qualification (Diploma level 7, minimum)

Practicing / Training / Compliance Certification

  • NEBOSH or equivalent is desirable

  • Safepass accreditation is desirable

Professional Memberships

  • Membership of an engineering, construction or health and safety organisation (e.g. Engineers Ireland, IOSH) is desirable.
