The Opportunity

The Europe Head of Marketing, Communications & Business Development (MCBD) is responsible for marketing, communications and BD service delivery within the Region. ​It directs and leads activity within the Region ensuring alignment with global strategies and direction to enhance our brand visibility, enable effective client engagement and fostering broader stakeholder relationships and business development activities.

 

As a member of the Region’s extended leadership team, the role partners with region leaders to champion an integrated, 'One Arup' approach and works as part of the global MCBD organisation to ensure strategic alignment, connectivity and consistent, best practice ways of working.​

 

Marketing planning and management

  • Contribute to and collaborate on the development of Arup’s marketing strategy.

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Region’s integrated MCBD plan aligned with the Region’s business plan, prioritised markets, services and geographic markets, monitor implementation and adjust as needed to achieve objectives.

  • Identifies market research and analysis opportunities, to spotlight trends in the competitive landscape to inform marketing and business plans.

  • Oversee the creation and execution of integrated marketing campaigns and business development initiatives.

  • Oversee the Brand & Creative Agency, Digital Marketing & Social Media capabilities in the Region supporting global alignment, brand governance and effective service delivery in the Region.

 

Corporate Affairs and Communications

  • Oversee Corporate Affairs and Communications activities including government and media relations, crisis communications, internal communications, and industry/business partnership as part of the MCBD plan for the Region and aligned with global direction.

  • Ensure consistent and effective messaging across all content and communication channels to align with global messaging while remaining locally relevant.

 

Clients and Business Development

  • Lead and enable the implementation of Arup’s client strategy and managed client’s program in the Region, including deployment of Account Based Marketing capability.

  • Oversee the capture, prepositioning and bidding teams supporting Local Business Leaders, Bid Directors and Managers with a focus on growing the firm's pipeline of work.​

 

Team Leadership and Management

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing marketing, communications, and business development team.

  • Performance management and career development. Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to team members.

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive and innovative team culture.

  • Champion connectivity and collaboration with centralised teams and across regions, enabling joint working, resource flexibility and sharing better practice and learnings.

  • Responsible for regional data quality, ensuring a digital focus within the team, and overseeing the analysis and reporting to inform strategic MCBD decisions.

  • Develop and manage the MCBD budget, including allocation of resources and spend to optimize ROI.
     

Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attributes

 Qualifications

Degree, postgraduate qualification in Marketing, Communications, Commerce or other relevant qualification.

 

Knowledge and experience

  • Experience in a senior marketing, communications, and/or business development role.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and inspiring high-performing marketing, communications and/or business development teams, spanning multiple markets, locations and specialisms.

  •  Demonstrated experience in building trusted, influential relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of current trends and developments in marketing, communications and business development.

  • Experience in leading change and transformation, innovation and operational excellence in MCBD functions.

 

Skills and attributes

  • Strong skills in strategic thinking and analysis and problem-solving.

  • Commercial literacy, budgeting and budget management.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in marketing and communications related technologies.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities. 

  •  Comfortable with high levels of ambiguity, particularly in the context of matrix organisational structures.

  •  Able to build strong and highly collaborative and inclusive working relationships with peers, leaders and other stakeholders.

  • High level of personal integrity, professionalism, and inclusive leadership. Commitment to exemplifying Arup’s aims, particularly those of being a ‘humane organisation’, maintaining ‘quality of work’, and ‘straight and honourable dealings’.
