As part of the Climate and Sustainability Services Portfolio (CSSP) team, you will engage in a diverse range of projects across the built environment, promoting sustainability and decarbonization efforts in sectors such as real estate, infrastructure, and transportation. The CSSP team supports large, multidisciplinary projects across the region, while also delivering focused initiatives directly with clients. In the role of Graduate Sustainability Consultant, you will support this team with technical reports, client presentations, and analysis to advance sustainable development in Canada and around the world.

 The opportunity 

  • Conduct research into a variety of sustainability, decarbonization, climate change, and green building practices (e.g., low-carbon materials, circular economy design, lifecycle analysis and embodied carbon, zero emission vehicles, climate resilience, policy and regulatory landscape, environment, and biodiversity etc.) 
  • Assist in the development of decarbonization strategies and sustainability master planning
  • Research project-relevant low-carbon technologies and energy conservation measures
  • Coordinate the certification and compliance of projects pursuing green building standards and ratings system programs such as LEED, Zero Carbon Building Standard, Envision, and the Toronto Green Standard
  • Support technical report writing and the creation of presentation material
  • Develop sketches, charts, graphics, and other forms of data visualization and digital illustrations of sustainability concepts to visualize design strategies for client presentations and other external needs
  • Complete benchmarking for sustainability goals and standards, and GHG emissions target-setting
  • Develop GHG assessment inventories, with emissions forecasting for building and infrastructure projects

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in relevant Engineering, Architectural Science, Architectural Engineering, Architectural Technology, Planning, Construction, Building Science, or other relevant areas of study
  • Experience with data analysis using software tools (e.g., Excel, VBA, PowerBI, EnergyPlus, IES-VE, Xendee, etc.)
  • Robust research, fact-finding, and literature review skills
  • Understanding and experience with techno-economic studies, financial analysis/modelling, and lifecycle costing analysis
  • Foundational knowledge in energy and climate related concepts (e.g., building energy systems, embodied carbon, zero emission vehicles, circulate economy, environmental & biodiversity, etc.)
  • Candidate must be eligible to work in Canada without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in relevant Engineering, Architectural Science, Architectural Engineering, Architectural Technology, Planning, Construction, Building Science, or other relevant areas of study
  • LEED, WELL or Envision certifications
  • French proficiency in reading and writing (regional team with projects in Quebec)

Toronto Hiring Range – Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $61, 000 to $70, 500 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
