The Opportunity

As part of our 2021 Graduate Programme an exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated Graduate Engineer to join our Rail Team.

As a Graduate Rail Engineer you will get the opportunity to join a diverse and inclusive team that works on multidisciplinary global projects. Initially you will be trained in the basics of alignment design and line side civil engineering, while getting the opportunity to familiarise yourself with Railway systems and operations.


As a Graduate Rail Engineer participating in the Graduate Programme you will complete a variety of customised training modules with your graduate peers. These modules facilitate growth in your consulting and communication skills developing you into a well-rounded reputable professional. In addition, specialist technical training will be provided across a range of relevant areas.

Your ongoing commitment to delivering success to both internal and external stakeholders is recognised, highlighted and rewarded.

You will be empowered to undertake design, project management and consulting services within your field of expertise, in order to enhance the team’s portfolio of skills and expertise while supporting and developing the skills and requirements your discipline utilises.

In addition, graduates will be given the opportunity to:

• Undertake and assist more experienced members of staff with the analysis of information, production of designs, modelling and computations;
• Assist in the preparation of specifications, proposals and other documentation under supervision;
• Utilise Arup's cutting edge technology to produce and deliver exceptional technical documentation and presentations that will be delivered to our clients;
• Increase your exposure in the industry by working with a company regularly recognised as an industry leader

What you need

With recognised relevant university degree qualifications in Civil Engineering or similar you will be able to demonstrate your ability to design and deliver solutions to projects and teams.

Possessing a keen interest in developing your career into a client-facing role in rail & transit infrastructure you will be able to provide examples of your excellent attention to detail along with high-level verbal and written communications.

Your ability to work under pressure in conjunction with your excellent planning and organisation skills will give you the opportunity to truly flourish.
