The Opportunity
The Land Quality team is a team of Environmental Scientists specialising in geoenvironmental ground conditions. We support major infrastructure and development projects by assessing land quality constraints and opportunities, helping clients manage issues relating to contaminated land, soils, groundwater, agricultural land quality, waste and materials management.
Working closely with colleagues across Arup's environmental, engineering and planning disciplines, and drawing on expertise from a UK-wide network of specialists, we provide integrated advice throughout the project lifecycle. Our work includes environmental impact assessments, Phase 1 desk studies, ground investigations, land contamination risk assessment, soil resource management, earthworks and materials reuse strategies, and sustainable remediation. We are passionate about protecting and enhancing resources, promoting circular economy principles, and helping clients deliver projects that minimise environmental impacts and maximise long-term environmental solutions.
The key responsibilities for this role include:
- Environmental Assessments & DCO Support – Assisting with environmental assessments and consent applications for major infrastructure projects, including the preparation and review of technical documents.
- Contaminated Land & Soil Investigations – Supporting site investigations, soil sampling, laboratory data review and contaminated land assessments to inform project design and risk management.
- Technical Reporting & Data Analysis – Analysing environmental data and preparing desk studies, technical reports and supporting documentation to a high-quality standard.
- Project Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement – Working with multidisciplinary teams, clients and stakeholders to coordinate environmental inputs and support project delivery.
- Sustainable Remediation & Soil Management – Contributing to sustainable land management solutions, including remediation strategies, soil management, material reuse and climate resilience initiatives.

Is this role right for you?
For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes: A bachelor's degree in relevant academic discipline, such as Contaminated Land. Earth Sciences (inc. Geology & Oceanography); Ground / Geotechnical Engineering; Land contamination.
- Technical skills and experience interested in Word; Excel; PowerPoint. Arc GIS; QGIS; ConSim; HoleBASE/gINT; AGS data handling.

- Full working rights in the country of application
- No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role
- Recently graduated, or on track to graduate, from your most recent degree, related to your role of choice, before employment starts.
