Graduate Engineering Geologist - Cork

The Opportunity

At Arup, our Engineering Geologists play a critical role in delivering safe, sustainable and resilient infrastructure projects. From major transportation networks and water infrastructure to tunnels, buildings and renewable energy developments, you'll help unlock the challenges beneath the surface and shape the world above it.

As a Graduate Engineering Geologist, you'll work alongside geologists, geotechnical engineers and multidisciplinary teams on some of the most exciting projects in the industry.

As a Graduate Engineering Geologist, your role will include, but not be limited to:

  • Geological, hydrogeological and geotechnical desk studies, site assessments and development of conceptual ground models.  
  • Planning and interpretation of ground investigations, site inspections (including soil and rock logging) and geological assessments
  • Geological and geotechnical assessments supporting infrastructure, environmental and development projects, including earthworks, slopes, excavations and rock engineering.  
  • Preparation of technical reports, factual and interpretative ground investigation reports, assessments and environmental documentation.  
  • Geological and hydrogeological input to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Environmental Statements and regulatory submissions.  
  • Help identify and manage ground-related risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assessment of potential impacts of developments on ground conditions, including identification of mitigation measures.  
  • Work closely with engineers, environmental specialists and project teams to develop practical and sustainable solutions.
  • Utilise digital tools and data-driven approaches to support project delivery.
  • Participate in local professional bodies and work toward chartership or formal qualifications
  • Undertake site based roles with potential for assignments in Ireland and overseas

 For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:    

A Bachelor's degree or undergraduate (Level 8 or above), or Master's degree or PhD in a relevant discipline, including:

  • Engineering Geology
  • Geological Engineering
  • Geology
  • Earth Sciences
  • Geoscience
  • Engineering Geoscience
  • Environmental Geology

We're looking for graduates who demonstrate:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • A passion for geology, ground engineering and infrastructure including field and site work
  • Attention to detail and commitment to technical excellence
  • A collaborative approach to working within multidisciplinary teams
  • A proactive and self-motivated attitude
  • Curiosity, initiative and a willingness to learn
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Exposure to any of the following would be advantageous:
  • Ground investigations and geological logging
  • Soil and rock mechanics
  • Geotechnical or geoenvironmental assessments
  • GIS, data analysis or digital engineering tools
  • Geological mapping and interpretation
  • Engineering design and infrastructure projects

 To be considered for a graduate opportunity, your application must include a copy of your academic transcript and meet the following criteria:  

  • No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role  
  • Recently graduated, or on track to graduate, from your most recent degree, related to your role of choice, before employment starts.
