The Opportunity

As a Graduate BMS Design Engineer, you will work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop BMS and controls solutions for a diverse range of projects, including commercial developments, healthcare facilities, education campuses, transport hubs and critical infrastructure.

This role brings together building services engineering, controls, automation and digital technology, giving you the opportunity to develop specialist expertise in how building systems are controlled, monitored and optimised.

As a Graduate BMS Design Engineer at Arup, you will:

  • Assist in the design and specification of Building Management Systems (BMS) and associated control systems.
  • Support the development of controls strategies, system architecture, points schedules and technical documentation.
  • Contribute to the delivery of sustainable, energy-efficient and digitally enabled building solutions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical, digital and building services engineering specialists.
  • Participate in site visits, design reviews, commissioning activities and building performance reviews.
  • Support the integration and monitoring of HVAC, energy metering and other building services systems through the BMS.
  • Develop an understanding of building controls, digital engineering, system integration and data-driven building performance.
  • Assist with project coordination, design reviews and quality assurance processes.
  • Contribute to innovative solutions that improve occupant comfort, operational efficiency and carbon performance.

 For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:    

An undergraduate or bachelor's degree (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent) in the following disciplines:

  • Automation Engineering
  • Control & Instrumentation Engineering
  • Building Automation Systems
  • Mechatronics Engineering
  • Robotics Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Building Services Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Energy Engineering
  • Engineering Technology or a closely related discipline

 Desired knowledge and experience we are looking for:

  • An interest in Building Management Systems (BMS) and building automation.
  • A basic understanding of building services and HVAC systems.
  • An understanding of control systems fundamentals and automation principles.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit would be beneficial.
  • Exposure to BMS platforms such as:  
  • Trend Controls
  • Schneider Electric
  • Siemens Desigo
  • Niagara Framework

An interest in digital engineering, building analytics and building performance optimisation.

  • No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role  
  • Recently graduated, or on track to graduate, from your most recent degree, related to your role of choice, before employment starts.
