The Advanced Technology and Research practice (AT+R) brings together specialists of the highest technical caliber to develop inventive, practical and cost-effective solutions to complex problems. Through advanced simulations, first principles analysis and applied research we help clients answer their most difficult questions. We are involved in projects such as long-span bridges, high rise buildings, risk and resilience assessments and offshore wind.

Responsibilities of this specific role will include, but not be limited to the following:
• Undertake numerical analyses using first-principles methods to solve our client’s most difficult challenges
• Perform and report linear and non-linear, static and dynamic structural finite element analysis, principally for structural and geo-engineering applications (e.g. earthquake, wind, and vibration analysis)
• Collaborate with other structural engineers, civil engineers, mechanical engineers and risk consultants on innovative buildings and infrastructure projects
• Work on defined tasks under the close supervision of a senior engineer
• Analysis, design and communication of results to clients both internal and external to Arup.

We encourage candidates who have interest/aptitudes in any of the following:
• Dynamics and seismic design, including performance-based design philosophies
• Materials science and engineering
• Computational Fluid Dynamics
• Wind engineering and extreme environmental loading
• Risk and resilience assessment and design across multiple natural hazards
• Blast and impact design and analysis



• Pursuing Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Architectural engineering
• 3.0 GPA or higher
• Fundamental knowledge of structural mechanics, dynamics, or CFD, risk modelling as appropriate
• Proficiency in Python, R, Julia, JavaScript, Perl, or another scripting language
• The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working
• Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels
• Excellent problem solving and lateral/critical thinking skills
• Aptitude for learning new skills and tools
• Ability to communicate thoughts and ideas in an accessible way
• Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, flexibility, teamwork and creativity
• Proven ability to work through a problem with limited supervision

• Pursuing Master's degree or higher in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Architectural Engineering
• 3.3 GPA or higher
• Experience with LS-DYNA, Hypermesh, and other FEA tools
• Coursework in probability and statistics, or data science
• Previous internship experience with an engineering firm
• Fundamental knowledge of structural mechanics, dynamics, fluids, and risk modelling
• Experience with LS-DYNA, Hypermesh, OpenFOAM or other FEA/CFD tools
• Coursework in probability, statistics, and data science
• Formal training in advanced topics related to the disciplines mentioned earlier
• Proficient in programming, web or app development
• Experience with Python, R, Julia, JavaScript, Perl, or another scripting language
