Watch this short clip to discover how Arup are shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!

The Opportunity

We are seeking candidates for a broad range of geotechnical engineering roles within our Ground Engineering team. Based on your experience, you will be involved in delivering or leading our activities to characterise the ground, undertake geotechnical design, write reports and produce drawings and specifications to help deliver projects across a range of markets and sectors.
You will have a good comprehension of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering and their application in the built environment with the critical thinking skills to assess the buildability of the designs you prepare. We offer fantastic mentorship by senior members of our team for your technical and professional development.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We are a growing team across our three offices in Bristol, Winchester, and Cardiff.  We are keen to speak with geotechnical engineers of various levels of experience for mid-level to senior roles.  Suitable candidates will hold a Civil Engineering qualification in Geotechnical engineering (or internationally comparable equivalent) in a geotechnical related subject such as Soil Mechanics. Holding or approaching chartered status is expected for our senior roles, with junior roles developing towards being chartered.

The following experience and skills from your time spent in a civil engineering consultancy are of interest to us;

  • Attending, managing and interpreting ground investigations and other geotechnical site works;
  • Preparing geotechnical documents such as desk studies, interpretative reports, and specifications;
  • Demonstrable experience in analysis and design of a wide range of geotechnical solutions such as shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, ground improvement, and the impact of ground conditions on existing and new structures;
  • Using digital technologies such as the use of geotechnical finite element software, GIS, programming, and data processing.

Candidates early in their career may still be gaining experience in some of these areas. Candidates guiding others in these activities would be suitable for our more senior positions.

We pride ourselves on developing teams with diverse backgrounds, skills and capabilities, underpinned by characteristics such as having a logical and methodical approach to your work, whilst embracing pragmatism and flexibility where needed; strong conceptual thinking, numerical, and logical abilities; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interactive skills, giving an ability to work effectively within teams and with clients; be flexible and mobile, travelling away from the office as needed.
There will be ample opportunity to develop existing knowledge and capabilities, and potentially a technical specialism within the group framework.
