About you

You are a self-motivated Geotechnical Engineer with a proven track record of planning, specification management and delivery of geotechnical site investigation and laboratory testing programs for major infrastructure projects. A safety and quality focused team player with a can-do attitude you will have the ability to develop successful client and stakeholder relationships. Key to your success will be the capability to working independently, as well as in a team to deliver high quality outputs on time and to budget. 

Profile for success

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in geotechnical investigation, design and construction including, on site ground investigation experience
  • Geotechnical design experience across a range of medium to large scale infrastructure projects and / or buildings projects.
  • Experience of planning, managing and interpreting geotechnical investigations.
  • Ability to demonstrate commercial awareness.
  • Proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines.
  • Recognised relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering and preferably have completed or be working towards a Masters degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Eligibility for Chartership with Engineers Australia (or equivalent)

About the role

At Arup we design and deliver ground-breaking and iconic projects through our work in infrastructure, building design and by providing specialist technical services. Our areas of expertise include geotechnical engineering, geology, geohazards, geo-environmental, hydrogeology and seismic engineering. 

Reporting to the NSW Group Leader Infrastructure and the NSW Geotechnics Team Leader in this role you will:

  • Carry out desktop research to develop a clear understanding of ground conditions at the project site, and identify geotechnical testing required to manage ground risk and support design development.
  • Be responsible for the pricing, logistical planning, management and delivery of high quality geotechnical field investigations, including the development of health and safety management plans and their implementation on site.
  • Liaise and communicate effectively with relevant internal and external stakeholders to fully understand clients' needs, project requirements and delivery.
  • Undertake geotechnical interpretation and design analysis and prepare reports, drawings and specifications, following the checking process outlined in Arup’s Quality Management System, including checking the accuracy of own and others work.
  • Be responsible for the development and management of small projects and proposals, or works packages allocated to you as part of larger projects. This will involve coordinating people, facilities and resources within tight timelines and in line with budgetary constraints.  
  • Support the development, morale and motivation of more junior staff, by providing guidance, training and feedback.
