The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Ground Engineering team in Ireland. The successful candidate will work across a portfolio of exciting, varied and multi-disciplinary projects. You will work with a team of hydrogeologists, contaminated land specialists, engineering geologists and geotechnical engineers. The role will focus on geotechnical engineering projects but with the opportunity to work across the full range of projects delivered by the Ground Engineering discipline.  

Our current projects where we expect the candidate could contribute include:

  • Geotechnical input for pharmaceutical, industrial, and commercial projects across Ireland.

  • Major infrastructure projects, e.g. Metrolink, Dart Expansion, including highway projects such as N6 Galway Ring Road, N24 Cahir to Limerick Junction, N4 Carrick-on-Shannon.

  • Involvement with exciting international projects including interaction with other Arup offices across Ireland and Europe, e.g. data centre projects in Spain, Netherlands, Scandinavia and tall commercial towers in Tirana, Albania.

  • Development of industry standards and guidance as part of our TII standards commission.

 

As a Geotechnical Engineer at Arup, you will:

  • Undertaking desks studies and site walkovers.

  • Planning, supervising and geotechnical interpretation of ground investigations

  • Technical analysis of foundations, retaining structures, slope stability and earthworks. Including the preparation of design reports and technical specifications.

  • Technical support during the construction phase including periodic visits to site.

  • Incorporate the latest digital tools and automation on our projects

  • This is a great opportunity to further develop technical and business skills in a stimulating and supportive environment within a large Ground Engineering team. You will also develop relationships with our firm’s wider engineering community and our clients’ engineering and project teams.

 

 

Does this role inspire you?

  • These are the essential skills and qualifications for the position:

  • As a minimum, candidates will have an honour bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Structural Engineering.

  • A post-graduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering, Soil Mechanics, or equivalent is an advantage.

  • Over two years post graduate experience that has developed a strong grounding in this field and thus can demonstrate a thorough knowledge of geotechnical fundamentals.

 

We also value:

  • Experience and ability in geotechnical design software and GIS.

  • Experience in liaison with, and supervision of, ground investigation contractors.

  • Excellent communication, report writing and teamwork skills, with the ability to contribute effectively to a collaborative environment.

  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills. And ability to meet strict deadlines.

  • Highly motivated and willing to take on new challenges.

  • Flexibility to travel, work on site, and full drivers licence.

  • Willingness to develop commercial awareness and acumen, in addition to technical design skills.
