Our Technical Specialist Services team in Copenhagen is a core driver of Arup's commitment to sustainable development. The team is being in rapid growth as part of our presence in Denmark and the Nordics. The specialist team currently consists of eight highly skilled engineers and architects specializing in materials, facades, and fire engineering. We are passionate about delivering innovative solutions that maximise quality and minimize environmental impact. As part of our multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects across Scandinavia and internationally, collaborating with experts from various disciplines.
As part of our global Façade Engineering team, you’ll play a critical role in delivering high-performance, aesthetically appealing, and durable building envelope solutions. We work closely with clients and architects to develop creative and sustainable designs that push the boundaries of innovation. Our team’s expertise spans from conceptual design to construction, ensuring the successful realization of some of the world’s most iconic projects.
The Opportunity
This is your chance to join a leading multidisciplinary consultancy, working on some of the most exciting and challenging projects both in Denmark and abroad. As a Façade Engineer at Arup, you will:
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and clients to develop innovative façade design solutions, from concept to detailed design and construction.
Be part of the design and specification of high-quality façades, ensuring they meet both aesthetic and performance requirements.
Oversee the technical and financial aspects of façade projects, delivering on time and within budget.
Work closely with contractors and suppliers during the installation phase, ensuring the successful execution of your designs on site.
Contribute to the development of new façade technologies and sustainable design approaches, helping Arup continue to lead in this field.
Develop a detailed appreciation, understanding of construction build-ups and their respective materials such as glass, aluminium, concrete, steel, and timber in various forms and the fixing and jointing methods to integrate them into high-performance facades.
Creating reports for clients summarising façade design solutions strategically advising on best outcomes
Developing systems and concepts for a sustainable approach to façade engineering and design
Liaising with other engineering discipline groups on inspection and design issues.
Producing drawings, reports, specifications and correspondence.
Reviewing technical submissions for compliance with design intent.
Receiving support from our senior team members.
Receiving training to develop your knowledge and skills.
Does this role inspire you?
We are looking for someone who is passionate about innovative façade design and sustainable building solutions. The following are the essential skills and qualifications for the position:
A degree in building/architectural engineering, architectural technology, architecture, civil/structural engineering, mechanical engineering, product design, or a related field (or equivalent). Candidates without a formal degree who can demonstrate relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
Considering becoming a member of the Society of Façade Engineers.
Have a love of exciting architecture.
Have knowledge of façade systems and related areas.
Have an interest in facade design (structural, thermal, glazing, etc) across a range of façade types.
Be interested in novel façade materials and technologies.
Have a versatile skillset including knowledge of façade architectural detail design, building physics, and report writing.
Be driven to see digital tools implemented into the different stages of projects.
Have worked on a portfolio of medium to large scale projects.
Demonstrate a strong ability to communicate with the team through sketching, drawing, report writing and computer modelling tools.
We also value:
Fluency in Danish or other Scandinavian language.
Experience in one or more of the following areas: conceptual design, façade detailing, structural analysis, cladding design, structural glass design, building envelope physics, or façade systems.
Excellent communication skills and a proactive, collaborative approach to project delivery.
