Energy Consultant
Joining Arup
Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
The Manila Energy Team is expanding its Advisory capability to support grid expansion, resilience, and decarbonisation across the Philippines and the wider Asia‑Pacific region. This role is repositioned to focus on engineering advisory and technical leadership, providing specialist input to complex energy projects, supporting sound decision making, and contributing to project delivery through targeted technical oversight.
The Opportunity
You will act primarily as a Renewable Energy Engineer on Advisory projects, supporting the conversion of opportunities from early client engagement through proposal development, technical positioning, and mobilisation of delivery teams. Hands on project management responsibility will be selective and typically focused on complex, high value, or strategically important assignments. The role involves close collaboration with renewable energy developers, utilities, regulators, and financiers, as well as Arup’s global Renewable Energy, Advisory, and Energy Infrastructure specialists. You will play a key role in defining solution strategies, shaping scopes, and ensuring Arup’s technical excellence is clearly articulated and differentiated during pursuits.
You are expected to provide technical authority and thought leadership in Advisory, mentor staff, and proactively identify opportunities to cross‑sell Arup’s integrated capabilities across power systems, civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, digital, and advisory services.
• Embedded within the Manila Energy business and the wider Infrastructure team under the EWR+T Infra cost center, the position focuses on shaping, originating, and technically leading advisory opportunities, including delivering technical advisory services across the renewable energy project lifecycle, with general knowledge of permitting, pre-development, and FID-related requirements.
• Prepare and review Independent Engineer / OE Engineer reports, technical opinions, and bankability assessments.
• Undertake technical due diligence (TDD) for lenders, investors, and project sponsors, encompassing review of design, technology, construction, cost estimates, schedules, and identifying project risks
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.
Is this role right for you?
Technical Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong technical background across different renewable energy technologies and technical advisory services.
• Strong understanding of renewable energy systems, project lifecycle, and grid integration.
• Solid understanding of construction, commissioning, and operations practices.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical strategy rather than purely task‑based delivery.
• Experience contributing to proposals, technical strategies, and client presentations.
• Familiarity with international projects and multi‑stakeholder environments.
• Willingness to travel for site visits and client meetings as required.
• Membership, or eligibility for membership, of relevant professional institutions.
• Sound understanding of applicable grid codes, standards, regulatory requirements, environmental approvals, and OH&S obligations.
You will be successful if:
• Demonstrate confidence and credibility when engaging senior clients and stakeholders.
• Balance commercial awareness with technical integrity.
• Be proactive in identifying opportunities and shaping outcomes.
• Show strategic mindset beyond immediate project responsibilities.
• Communicate persuasively and clearly in both written and verbal settings.
• Thrive in ambiguous, market‑facing environments.
Key Relationships include:
• Strong working relationships with developers, investors, lenders, contractors, regulators, and energy sector clients to support effective renewable energy advisory delivery across Southeast Asia.
• Close collaboration with Arup’s local, regional, and global renewable energy advisory, infrastructure, and technical specialist teams to coordinate inputs and deliver integrated outcomes.
• Effective internal collaboration across Arup’s Energy, Infrastructure, Environmental, Civil, Structural, Geotechnical, and Digital practices to support high-quality renewable energy advisory delivery.
