This role’s main objective is to expand the Energy business in Malaysia. The role is market facing within Malaysia with strong collaboration with colleagues in other Southeast Asia and APAC offices. It is focused on building Arup’s profile in the Malaysian energy sector, identifying opportunities, winning and delivering work to provide a strong foundation for a self-sustaining Energy team based in Kuala Lumpur. It will involve strategy development to select and prioritise target markets and clients, and collaboration with energy colleagues across APAC to win and deliver projects at the high standards that Arup’s clients expect.
The Opportunity
This role is for a strategic business and technical leader to enable the Southeast Asia Energy Business to undertake Energy projects in Malaysia and develop collaborative relationship with utilities companies, government entities, power developers both in the government and private sector.
The key responsibilities include:
- Identify, pursue, secure and deliver Energy projects across Malaysia.
- Provide technical expertise in delivery of energy projects based on key principles of quality, innovation and integration.
- Identify and work with clients to understand their investment in the energy sector, scoping out project needs and mobilizing Arup experience, including all stakeholders.
- Support SEA Energy Business Leader to identify talent, build capacity, develop skills and share experience.
- Support Energy team in Malaysia, covering skills and services in technical advisory, project development and design, and owner’s engineer services.
- Lead large scale projects with multiple teams and stakeholders, developing project plans, schedules, and resource allocation strategies, managing project risks, and mentoring junior project managers.
Oversee and drive business development initiatives, including the identification of new opportunities and the execution of comprehensive strategies in collaboration with senior management.

Is this role right for you?
- We seek a visionary leader who embodies the spirit of gotong royong—mutual cooperation—and thrives in the dynamic energy sector.
- Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in an engineering discipline relevant to the energy sector.
- More than 12 years’ relevant experience in the energy sector, with at least 2 years’ experience in project or team leadership roles.
- Demonstrated success in delivering Energy projects, with both public and private sector clients.
- A well-developed network of client contacts in the Indonesian energy sector.
- While Arup operates globally, we Arup recognizes that sustainable progress in Indonesia is driven by empowering local professionals and cultivating leadership from within, thus the position is equally open for Malaysian nationals as well.
- Success in this role requires the ability to navigate both global and Malaysian contexts. We value candidates with strong cross-cultural communication skills and fluency in relevant languages.
