Joining Arup

At Arup we’re dedicated to sustainable development and to doing socially useful work that has meaning. We solve the world’s most complex problems and deliver what may seem impossible — with curiosity and creativity.

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the delivery of complex projects across mission-critical, aviation, and institutional sectors in our Washington D.C. and Boston offices. This role will work closely with the Electrical Lead and project team to develop coordinated electrical designs, advance models and calculations, and support junior engineers through technical guidance and review.

The ideal candidate is technically solid, delivery-focused, and comfortable translating design intent into coordinated Revit models and supporting analysis.

The opportunity

  • Develop electrical designs under the direction of the Electrical Lead, from concept through permit and construction documentation
  • Translate design intent into detailed Revit models, drawings, and schedules in coordination with BIM and other disciplines
  • Prepare and support power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash) using SKM or ETAP (or similar tools), with oversight from senior engineers
  • Assist with equipment layouts, one-lines, risers, grounding, and feeder routing
  • Coordinate with mechanical, civil, architectural, and other disciplines to resolve clashes and design interfaces
  • Support the Electrical Lead in advancing design packages through internal QA/QC reviews
  • Respond to internal comments and assist with incorporation of review feedback
  • Support construction administration activities as required (RFIs, submittal reviews, site queries)
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to junior engineers (G2–G3), including guidance on calculations, drafting standards, and design approach
  • Review junior staff work for completeness and technical accuracy under senior supervision
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and knowledge sharing across projects

The skills

·       Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field

·       4–8 years of experience in electrical building systems design

·       Strong working knowledge of:

•    Electrical distribution systems (LV/MV exposure preferred)

•    Revit for electrical design and coordination

•    SKM (or similar power system analysis software)

•    AGI or Dialux for Illumination study

·       Experience working within multi-disciplinary project teams

·       Ability to work under direction while managing assigned tasks independently

·       Ability to do site visits

·       Ability to present in the office (min. three days per week)

Preferred Qualifications

·       Experience on data center, aviation, or mission-critical projects

·       Exposure to permitting and construction documentation phases

·       Experience supporting power system studies under senior oversight

·       Interest in mentoring junior engineers and growing technical leadership skills

·       EIT or PE (or on path toward licensure)
