Watch this short clip to discover how Arup are shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!

The Opportunity

Working in a multi-disciplinary environment, our electrical engineers aim to design buildings that maximise value for our clients whilst minimising their environmental impact. We are currently recruiting for Electrical Engineers with excellent design and technical skills who are in varying stages of their career to join our Building Services team in Cardiff. A team that seeks to set new standards in the built environment.

We are looking for passionate and dynamic Electrical Engineers who enjoy working collaboratively in multi-professional design teams that take responsibility for projects from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results. We work across a number of sectors, in particular healthcare, but also labs, commercial, residential, education, energy, sport and mixed-use developments. If you have worked on similar projects before, we want to hear from you.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for Electrical Engineers who can apply their engineering expertise to shape our projects. You will be able to demonstrate a background in the field of electrical building services design and have worked across a range of project scales and building types. Our Engineers play a part in the ever-increasing digital transformation of our business, seeking new ways to increase our efficiency through automation and to offer new services to our clients through our integrated digital approach to design. If you have a passion for design and an interest for architecture and sustainable building design this could be the role for you.

Depending on your level of experience, you may have responsibility for leading the electrical building services design on our projects while mentoring and developing our junior engineers. You may be familiar with managing small teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects, and be able to demonstrate strong commercial awareness and develop successful client relationships. We are open to engineers in different stages of their career so if you have previous knowledge of these sectors please get in touch.

In this role you will provide management to the MEP team on a portfolio of projects locally, nationally and internationally, having the duty of ensuring correct technical approaches are applied to the project and to undertake the task at hand. You will be expected to have project management skills, effectively overseeing total project delivery by enabling effective team management and delegation to ensure the efficient and satisfactory delivery of multiple and complex projects, reporting to the Project Director.

In this role you will also produce engineering designs, calculations and specifications, using appropriate technical software and supervise and coordinate the work of others and coordinating work with engineers of other disciplines including in-house specialists. You will participate in and lead bids for new opportunities including developing fee proposals and attending interviews.

We are looking for people who:

  • Are BSc qualified in Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • Have extensive experience in winning and delivering a range of projects.
  • Proven people management skills and are familiar with managing staff at all levels.
  • Experienced in sustainable building design and in satisfying the regulatory and voluntary codes associated with sustainability and energy strategy.
