The Opportunity
Our dynamic and growing Environment and Ecology team is expanding, and we are seeking an Ecologist to join us in Ireland. You will play a key role in delivering high‑quality services in nature restoration, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Appropriate Assessment (AA) / Natura Impact Statements (NIS), Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), habitat surveys, reporting and mapping. This role can be based in Dublin or Cork
This role provides excellent opportunities to further develop your skills in species identification, digitisation, habitat management, restoration and rehabilitation. You will work on projects across the transport, water, energy and urban sectors, supporting delivery of some of Ireland’s most complex and high‑profile projects from early‑stage feasibility through to construction and operation.
As an Ecologist at Arup, you will:
· Conduct and/or coordinate a wide range of ecological surveys, including habitats, invasive species, mammals, bats, breeding and
wintering birds, and amphibians
· Collate, analyse and interpret ecological data
· Prepare detailed GIS mapping and contribute to high‑quality ecological reports
· Manage and deliver Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Appropriate Assessments, including screening and Natura Impact
Statements (NIS)
· Collaborate closely with Arup’s ecology and environment teams across Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK
· Support colleagues across transport, energy, advisory, water and infrastructure projects, identifying opportunities to restore and
enhance biodiversity
You will be supported by experienced ecologists working on nature restoration, biodiversity metrics and Appropriate Assessment, and will be encouraged to develop competencies aligned with the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
Does this role inspire you?
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about the environment and nature recovery. We also value:
· Proven experience in undertaking ecological surveys and assessments
· Experience in managing and delivering Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Appropriate Assessments (AA)
· Strong data collection, analysis and GIS mapping skills
· Excellent report writing and communication skills
· Membership of CIEEM
The following would be advantageous given the emerging nature of the work:
· Knowledge or experience of biodiversity metrics
· Understanding of natural capital and environmental net gain studies
· Experience contributing to site based or corporate biodiversity strategies
· Awareness of IFC Performance Standard 6 and wider nature related policy frameworks
· Advising on habitat restoration and enhancement, biodiversity led design, green infrastructure and nature based solutions to deliver biodiversity gain and climate
resilience
