Digital Risk and Resilience Engineer

The Role:

Within the Advanced Technology and Research (AT+R) team based in San Francisco, you will be supporting the delivery of digital solutions associated with our core services. This includes the development of digital tools and software to deliver risk and resilience services to our clients, focused on natural hazards and climate change, and working within a broader team that specializes in simulating physical impacts on the built environment. Your primary role would be to support the development of a digital platform (Iris) which helps our engineers and analysts provide our clients with intelligence about climate (and other) risks to their asset portfolios and insights on resilience actions through a dynamic and interactive SaaS-based solution. This is an opportunity to join at the ground level and help us build Iris into the industry’s leading risk and resilience platform for organizations across multiple industry sectors.

About You:

You have domain knowledge in the built environment and related engineering fields. You may have a civil, structural, or mechanical engineering degree and an understanding of risk and resilience engineering. You may also have practiced engineering in a previous role but are passionate about putting your digital skills at the forefront of your career development priorities. In addition you have a secondary degree in computer science, minored in computer science, participated in a coding bootcamp, taken relevant coursework in software development, or gained on the job experience in a previous software development. You may be a back-end, front-end, or full-stack developer.

Responsibilities:

•    Understand business problems, designing, developing, configuring, testing, and deploying software to provide the solution
•    Deliver modern cloud solutions, strategies, migrations, and applications 
•    Analyze, design, and architect cloud-based solutions to address our clients’ needs for infrastructure-as-a-service, platform-as-a-service, and software-as-a-service 
•    Use Agile techniques and are a part of a larger, cross-functional team 
•    Learn new languages and technologies and stay on top of the technology wave
•    Utilize the cloud solutions from Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform to solve real business problems for our customers

Your Qualifications and Desired Skills:
•    Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering, Mechanical engineering, Structural engineering, Environmental engineering or equivalent
•    Minimum 3.0 GPA or higher
•    Technologies: AWS, CI/CD Pipelines, Java, JavaScript, Python, React, Node, Cloud Formation, Git, Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Docker, API Development, Testing, and application security best practices.
•    Experience using SQL type databases (Postgres, SQL Server, MySQL, etc.), additional experience in NoSQL (e.g. DynamoDB) data store is welcome
•    Understands CS fundamentals, algorithms, data structures, and serverless architecture (deployment and support)
•    AWS, software engineering, and DevOps experience in enterprise environments, preferably AWS certified, especially professional certifications 
•    Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and serverless architectures a plus
